Playground HD: iPad App Video and Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to see quite a lot of educational applications aimed at children. However, we have yet to see an app that’s quite as feature-rich, well-designed, or universally fun as Playground HD by developer Jan Essig. The app comes loaded with 12 unique games for your child to play through, a wealth of inviting graphics, and above all, enough value in entertainment to make the whole expedition worth it. For our full review of this incredible app aimed at children, check just below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
Typically, when we look at an app intended for use by children, the app tends to fall within one of two categories: Either it’s an eBook of sorts with an educational bent, or it’s a collection of min-games designed to entertain the child. In this case, Playground HD is most certainly in the latter category. However, the app distinguishes itself by arriving at our door with a positive overload of information and toys. You see, the app is composed of 12 unique games, each of which is wholly different from the ones before. That being said, they all feature farm animals, or other animals your child will be quick to recognize. These animals have your children solving puzzles, playing the piano, playing memory games, painting by-numbers images, scratching scratch cards to reveal an image underneath, and many, many more. It’s a treasure trove of functionality, and we have no doubt that your child will love each and every one of these games. In fact, with two whole pages of content at your kid’s disposal, we have a feeling Playground HD will very quickly become their new favorite app. Playground HD is detailed, inventive, and above all else, gorgeous on the iPad. In our eyes, that’s enough said.
Design and Graphics
As stated just above, the look of Playground HD is to be applauded to the utmost. It’s obvious the developers have worked hard to create puzzles that are simple to navigate, even for small children. We did find the sliding puzzle a bit unresponsive, but that’s the most of a complaint we can muster. Additionally, we loved the fact that the app comes in a multitude of worldwide languages. In our experience, both the French and English performed splendidly, allowing us to keep our kids in their bilingual state even more: Thank you for that, developers.
Typically, we might be tempted to call an app that costs $3.99 a bit expensive, however, in the case of Playground HD we’re more than willing to make an exception. For less than the cost of a Starbucks latte, you can give your child the gift of 12 unique, engaging, and cute games to play on the iPad. To us, that’s an incredible bargain, and one we’re ready to call a must-have.
Playground HD requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
