My Takeout Menus: iPhone App Written Review
If your house is like ours, then you’ve likely got a drawer full of menus somewhere. These menus are for all the takeout locations in your area, all those little hovels and holes you frequent so often when life gets busy. If your house is even more like ours—God forbid—then you likely have one heck of a time finding that menu when you’re hungry and it’s been a long day. Thankfully, though, you can now empty out the entire drawer, thanks to a little app called My Takeout Menus by developer APSquared. The app allows you to digitize and save all of those menus, making it simple and fun to order takeout whenever you need it. For our full thoughts on this killer app, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind My Takeout Menus is deceptively simple, and in fact, we’re a little jealous we didn’t think of it first. The app allows you to create a new menu for each restaurant you frequent, and will even add automatic information to the listing, such as a phone number or street address. You can also add if the restaurant delivers or not. Then, the app allows you to quickly and simply snap a few photos of the menu, saving it permanently to your iDevice. Once that’s done, you put a label on the venue (Chinese, American, etc.) and your job is done! The menu is saved under the appropriate tab, and can be looked at whenever you so desire. Furthermore, the app also comes with a nifty menu shuffling feature that will randomly select one of the restaurants you’ve entered. We loved this feature, as it’s a bit like Urban Spoon, but only for the restaurants you actually visit. All in all, My Takeout Menus is a real time saver for our urban lifestyle.
Design and Layout
Furthermore, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the app’s design and layout. Everything about it screams quality, from the Internet searches it performs right down to the spinning wheel of menus. One of our favorite items was in fact the Web search capability, which greatly streamlines the process of adding a phone number and address to each individual listing. Aside from this, the post-it note and paper motif the app sports is quite appealing, and will definitely keep you coming back.
Best of all, the two dollar price tag in the App Store is a fair price to pay for an app that will greatly relieve your daily stress—as well as free up a drawer. The app is simple, efficient, and best of all, looks great. For that, we’d be willing to pay a lot more than two bucks. If you have a drawer of your own that you’ve been looking to get rid of, My Takeout Menus is a definite must-have.
My Takeout Menus requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
