Learn to Count HD: iPad App Written Review
One of the coolest things about technologies like iOS is its incredible potential to enrich our lives. Nowhere is this more present than in the realm of early childhood education. We see more apps in the genre with each passing day, which is why we’re delighted to introduce you now to one of our favourite new entries, Learn to Count HD by developer Pixel Interactive. The app provides a unique and engaging way for your child to learn to count in a variety of ways, and with so many wonderful animations, we have little doubt it will keep your child enthralled. All in all, you can jump on down below the break to view our whole thought on this excellent educational tool for children on the iPad.
Concept and Functionality
Typically, the apps we see in the education realm run the gambit between either being an interactive eBook or some sort of game. However, Learn to Count HD leaves both of these behind, instead offering a bevy of entertaining illustrations and animations with which your child can learn to count—but while having a blast! For example, the app makes heavy use of songs to teach concepts. This begins with simple number counting from one to ten, and then progresses to heavier concepts. By the end of the app, your child will have progressed from counting by twos to counting by threes, which as any parent knows, is quite important for your child’s development. Along the way, they’ll be experiencing these animated segments to their fullest, each of which contains an incredible amount of cute and inviting animated characters. It’s a wonderful assortment, and if your kids are like ours, we have no doubt they’ll be glued to the screen.
Design and Layout
Typically, one of the areas we’re most concerned with where a children’s application is involved is the artwork. If the drawings are amateurish, the child isn’t likely to be interested. However, in Learn to Count HD’s case, we feel the developers have done a real bang-up job. The characters are lively and cute, and even the songs are perfect. Still, we wonder how often your child will be returning to the app: Children love repetition, but without any sort of game involved here, we wonder if they’ll eventually tire of the handful of animated sequences.
Still, we can hardly knock the app for being a value. Clocking in at only $0.99 in the App Store Learn to Count HD is certainly a bargain. If you’ve been looking for just such an app to keep your child engaged and learning about number counting, we can hardly think of a better option: Much less one at a better price. Learn to Count HD is a must-have for the concerned and tech-savvy parent.
Learn to Count HD requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
