KaguyaHime – The Bamboo Princess HD: Written iPhone App Review
The famous 10th century Japanese folktale also known as “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter” is now made available in a rewarding and visually engaging experience, on the Bamboo Princess HD app, from developer. It can be used with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. However, it does require iOS 5.0.
It is certainly not a simple task to take a beloved and classic fairytale and turn into something even more appealing. However, the KaguyaHime – The Bamboo Princess HD app does just that. Users who are or are not familiar with the story line will enjoy it just the same and with simplistic features and basic functions, this app can serve as a source of entertainment or even as a conversation piece with children and adults alike. Not only does the story come to life visually, but vocally as well, with narration and even different character voices.
KaguyaHime – The Bamboo Princess HD is definitely a must see, literally. Not only does the plot unfold and displayed as an actually book, but the animated graphics come alive almost like a pop up or an interactive book. Characters’ arms wave about, KaguyaHime’s long tresses blow with the wind, and emotions are displayed on the characters’ faces. These are just some of the animation features that take place in this storybook app, and these features are a sure hit to keep its readers and users hooked throughout the entire narrative. The colors on this app are simplistic yet colorful, and the characters’ appearances are reminiscent of ancient Japanese culture. Just like most book type apps, the pages can be “turned” by a simple touch or swipe at the side of your device. The bottom menu bar can pop up and you can choose either to read along with the app, change language features from English or Korean, and there are even additional interactive features such as puzzle solving and drawing.
For a limited time, KaguyaHime – The Bamboo Princess HD is available for $0.99 through iTunes. Since it is based on a fairly well known folktale, people would like to have this app the same as they would like to have one of their favorite novels available on their device. It is a child-friendly story, and parents and teachers can use this app in their homes or classrooms for story-telling purposes. This folktale comes with history behind it and parents and teachers can also use it to their benefit to explain to and discuss with children the culture and different social aspects that were present and accepted during that time period.
