CheapOair: iPhone Video App Review
Don’t let the name fool you, the CheapOair iPhone app is actually top notch. Not only does it make searching for travel solutions on-the-go easy and effective, it comes with some sweet extras you’re sure to love. This travel title comes to us from the folks at Fareportal Inc., and with a simple, free app, they’ve definitely caught my attention.
The CheapOair app comes complete with a comprehensive airfare finder and hotel search function. Predictive search that never lets you down and GPS integration make finding your starting location or end destination easy, as long as your data connection is up to the challenge.
There’s also a handy “check my booking” section, and, get this, the app has a dedicated customer service team that’s available 24/7. From a free app? That’s hard to believe. I really dig the app’s quirky little extras, like the editable packing list and currency converter. It even contains a list of most of the world’s major airlines and their baggage fee status. If there was an option to search on that list, I’d be even happier, but the fact that a free app from some company I’ve never heard of before is offering me all this stuff free of charge is enough to impress me.
Sure, the app could use a few navigation updates (more about that after the cut), and it’s missing a flight + hotel combo vacation search. But I’m still a fan.
Layout & Design:
The orange and grey color scheme and super-responsive navigation controls are a pretty solid score in the CheapOair iPhone app. I never had a problem selecting something, and if I ever got confused each screen had its own handy help button in the lower right-hand corner. Ya can’t get much more user friendly than that.
Other than the combo shopper, another item on my wish list for this app is a home button. It’s way too easy to get neck deep in the hotel search process, only to find you’re eight clicks away from getting back to the main page to do a flight search or check out the community blog. Simply enabling the CheapOair symbol as a dedicated home key would fix that problem in a flash.
It’s hard to argue when an app that’s this good is free. The fact that there’s also a promo code for extra discounts if you book on-the-fly only makes this app that much sweeter. CheapOair is definitely a great value for anyone thinking about booking their next trip from their iPhone, even if they’re in the market for a swanky hotel or a first class flight. Definitely check this app out if you love to travel.
CheapOair iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
