Do you hate driving, especially to and from work? Do you hate running into accidents, or not knowing how the weather is along the entire course of your commute? Yeah, we do to. In fact, we hate driving so much that we decided to find a way to make it more fun, and infinitely easier. Our solution? Car Butler by developer Fancy Auto makes our driving experience infinitely better, offering us information about everything from accidents to weather to commute time and back again. For our full thoughts on this killer driving app for the iPhone, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind Car Butler is simple: How awesome would it be if you could fit all of the various data and information related to driving into a single application for your iPhone? Car Butler is basically this, allowing users to view the weather for multiple days in advance, check for nearby services, and receive updates on nearby accidents or other show stoppers. It’s really quite a brilliant package. You can report accidents on your own, and should any incidents be in your daily commuting path—which you’re free to enter for each of your commutes—they’ll be passed directly to you. We also really liked the ability to save our parking spot, as we’re quite terrible at remembering which end of the Wal-Mart we stopped at. Additioanlly, the option to search for nearby gas stations, body shops, car washes, etc. is an incredibly essential feature. On long road trips it makes all the sense in the world to search for the next gas station, especially in our neck of the Western United States. All in all, the package Car Butler offers comes ripe with enough information to make it easily worth your time and money.
Design and Layout
Best of all, Car Butler looks pretty great on the iPhone, too! The weather portion reminded us a lot of the stock HTC weather app, which is a good thing. Likewise, the parking spot and meter widget is incredibly gorgeous, offering a realtime alarm and actual metered appearance. Likewise, we had no problems peeping our daily commutes, or using the maps function to search for nearby services. All in all, Car Butler is the sort of app that “just works,” meaning it looks great and works harder: Just as a classic app should.
You may not believe it, but Car Butler is actually free, to boot. Yes, you don’t have to pay a dime to enjoy the rich benefits and services the app offers. In fact, with no upfront cost involved, we can’t think of a single reason you shouldn’t be using this app: Unless of course you don’t use a car. Either way, it’s a must-have for the daily commuter and hobby driver, and we won’t road trip again without it. Solid stuff, and a deserved 4.5 stars.
Car Butler requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
