For our full review of this YouTube mate extraordinaire, check below the break!
Concept and Functionality
Where the native YouTube app for the iPhone falls short, AutoTube hopes to step in and take its place. And for the most part, the app does this with flying colors. First and foremost, users are allowed to search for any number of videos, exactly as they would in the traditional app. However, the changes begin with video playback. All selected videos are instantly saved to a local playlist. This playlist can be modified or reorganized as the user rolls along. And, if you’re particularly digging the video lineup you’ve selected, you can save the temp playlist for viewing later at any point in time. On that note, AutoTube makes it easy to view all your favorite playlists. Firstly, there’s the playlists you save locally to the iPhone. Then, there are the playlists that you’ve created through your YouTube account. The app allows the user to automatically link their YouTube account to the app, allowing them to manage all their online elements in-app. All in all, combined with video out to tele with the right equipment, AutoTube is one slick way to enjoy YouTube from your iPhone. In fact, it may just be the best.
Design and Layout
When it comes to apps that feature YouTube or video playback, the first thing we look for is flawless performance. Thankfully, we had no problems here with AutoTube. The app performed without an hitch, allowing us to view all our favorite YouTube videos with speed and smooth playback. The playlist management was smooth as well, which meant we didn’t have to finagle to make our items fit. Additionally, the search performance was immaculate. And with an interface and video player that offer crisp views and designer-choice layouts, what do we have to complain about?
At the end of the day, considering AutoTube is completely free in the App Store, offers a wealth of functionality and playback, and allows the user to enjoy the whole YouTube experience away from the desktop, the app strikes us as one incredible bargain. We can’t think of a better way to watch videos on the Web, and with mobile ready design, AutoTube is a real steal.
AutoTube requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
