RackReminder: iPhone Written App Review
If you’re a sports or fitness enthusiast, you likely know what it means to take pride in your gear. Often times choosing the right bike, board or boat is a time consuming process and a lot of thought goes into it. So why would you risk the life of your gear by driving home with it strapped to your roof and driving into your garage without unmounting it?
It’s not the finest moment in a sports person’s life, but it’s happened to a lot of people. Now there’s an app to help you avoid the costly repairs to your gear and your ride’s rack, called RackReminder. We love the functionality of this app from Evolution Media. Read on to find out why.
With RackReminder your iPhone will alert you when you’re close to your destination. All you have to do is select or enter a destination address, the app does the rest. Drive, talk, text (not at the same time! We do not condone driving and texting!) and act like normal. This app runs in the background and will give you a heads up when you get close, helping you remember to unmounts your goods and avoid an unfortunate collision between your gear and your garage.
To be honest, this app has a really specific market: folks with large stuff to strap to the roof and garages. But it’s a legitimate niche. The RackReminder iPhone app is rounded out with a simple how-to page and a mapping function that works like a dream.
Layout & Design:
RackReminder is a pretty straightforward app. Its features are organized in a simple bottom tab design, leaving no room for confusion. We have no complaints about the app’s mellow yellow on black color theme, or its logical layout. Good job here, folks.
We have a history of being pretty hard on location-based apps around here. So we put RackReminder to the test, updating it after exerting ourselves physically. No, we didn’t go mountain biking, snowboarding or kayaking. What do you want, it’s cold out there! But suffice to say, your minds were properly exhausted by physical exertion when this app was tested.
We set our location and took off. Along the way a few alerts came in, the iPhone received a call and even a few text messages. As we neared the house, there it was. An alert that we customized. Don’t worry folks, our gym bags made it safely inside. No garage door drama incurred.
Will this app eventually drain your battery? Possibly. It does have to run in the background to work properly, but that’s a small price to pay in our opinion.
RackReminder won’t break the bank, and it could save you some serious dough if you’re the forgetful source. Adding it to your app arsenal will cost $1.99. Considering that nice titanium bike could cost well over $1,000, we think you’re getting quite the deal on this app. Extreme sporters, we highly suggest downloading RackReminder before you trash your gear, not after. You can thank us later.
RackReminder iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
