MetaTrader 4: iPhone App Video Review
Do you like to trade on the Forex market, or use it as your primary source of income? No, we mean do you love to trade on the Forex, eating, breathing, and sleeping on the currency exchange like some kind of financial intravenous drip? If so, then boy have we ever got the iPhone app for your. MetaTrader 4, by developer MetaQuotes Software makes it possible to carry the market in your pocket, checking trends, charts, and transactions with only a few presses of a button. It’s a marvelous utility, and if you’re knee deep in this stuff, the free price tag is a godsend. For our full thoughts on MetaTrader 4, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
Essentially, MetaTrader 4 acts as your all-in-one pitstop for all things Forex. If you’re just looking to track the current exchange rate of your choice symbols, you can do that easily from the home screen. However, as the app ties directly into the personal accounts of some 350 brokers, there’s a world of other possibilities, as well. If you’re fortunate enough to have a broker that trades with MetaTrader, you can access your account directly inside the app, using it to not only monitor the market, but trade directly from your phone. You can trade as little or as much as you’d like, and as the app tracks your budget, gains, and losses, it’s even a cinch to track your progress. The app also offers a wealth of detailed bar, chinese candlestick, or line graphs allowing you to track the specific changes in exchange rates during the user-specified time period. You can track in minutes, hours, or days, depending on the level of specificity you’re shooting for. All in all, it’s a powerful utility, and during our time with the app’s demo, we have no doubt it would make a nearly ideal traveling companion for the mobile Forex trader.
Design and Layout
That being said, the app perhaps isn’t the most glamorous we have seen. We liked the tabbed navigational controls, though we weren’t tremendous fans of the way quotes are presented. Other apps focus on delivering an immediately appraisable experience, and though we can’t quite put our finger on it, we just didn’t get the same vibe out of MetaTrader 4. We’d like to be able to click on an open ticket and receive a full, color-coded quote in seconds: A quote that’s as easy to read as the rest of the app is easy to use.
However, the value of the app is certainly hard to argue with: At no charge in the App Store, MetaTrader 4 is undeniably a bargain. And for the dedicated trader, we have no doubts it will perform admirably. Is it the best Forex trader on the market? We can’t quite say it is, but with no overhead, it might be the cheapest option in town.
MetaTrader 4 requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
