MealGuru: iPad Written App Review
With hundreds of thousands of apps out there, it can be hard to find ones that not only make your life easier, but make you look good living it. The MealGuru iPad app from EMP Company B.V. is just such an app. This slick pick makes you look like a culinary genius, arranging your meals, exporting shopping lists and even walking you through the cooking process step-by-step. To say that we’re fans is a gross understatement. Our iPad app review of MealGuru will tell you how to make the most of this culinary wonder app.
If you were to pare MealGuru down to its bare bones, you could call it a meal planning app. It lets you create a weekly meal plan for dinner, customized to include your own taste and style. But, let’s be honest, this app does a lot more than just lay out a repetitive seven-day menu.
It lets you choose from a huge selection of tempting meals, provides dietary info about them and even tips and tricks on making them healthier. Based on the meals you select, the app creates an easily exported and adjusted shopping list of exactly what you need based on how many portions you plan on making. And when you get back in the kitchen, the magic really starts. MealGuru has awesome pictures of each dish and step-by-step instructions in plain English that are super easy to follow. Each recipe page even has multiple built in timers at the top. Talk about convenient.
You can save, share, log your opinion about and generally be the boss of the app’s recipes. Searching through them is like paging through a glossy encyclopedia of food, except with better search options. Perfecto!
In case you couldn’t tell, we’re real big fans of MealGuru. When it popped up here at The iPhone App Review, we thought it might be a diet app. Truth be told, it’s not, but it would be nice if it had a way to sort recipes by certain factors, like calories or fat content, or if it suggested healthy meal plans. Well, there’s always the Cooking Light section.
Layout & Design:
If our casual use of words like “glossy” and “slick” didn’t tip you off yet, the MealGuru app for iPad is seriously beautiful. It works perfectly in landscape or portrait orientation, and it makes the most of the iPad’s expansive screen real estate. The green and black motif is tasteful, and the food pictures are sublime. The whole thing is one beguiling trap sure to make your stomach start grumbling, and we love it.
Despite having a ton of different ways to search through the food, the MealGuru app never seems cumbersome or complex. It just works, period.
All of this glossy goodness does come at a price, but it’s just $4.99. That’s surely not going to break the bank, and it’s much less then you’d pay for a cookbook with any real substance any way. So we highly recommend all foodies, planners and people in need of a little culinary inspiration download this app right this minute. You won’t be sorry.
MealGuru iPhone app requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
