iSecret!: iPhone App Video Review
Do you have a pesky roommate that continuously pokes into your private data, especially on your iPhone? Or, do you have a stash of—erm—photos you’d like to keep away from your girlfriend? No matter the reason, if you’re looking for a way to lock down images or videos on your iPhone, it can be a real nightmare without the proper app. With that in mind, may we present the proper app: iSecret! by developer Michele Barbieri. The app makes it simple and effective to keep your sensitive materials safe, including easy categorization and double-locked passcodes. Concept and Functionality
As mentioned, iSecret! has one goal, and one goal only: To help you store, secure, and keep your private stash of photos and videos, safeguarding them from wandering eyes. The app does this by first polling the user for a private password only they know. This is created at the first launch, and remains in effect until changed. Once activated, the app becomes more like a traditional file manager for the iPhone. Users can create folders and categories for their media, and then add that media from a variety of sources. This can be uploaded directly from the Photo Gallery, or added live from the camera itself. For photos, you can also store pictures off website you favor. All in all, if you have a media file somewhere you’d like to keep safe, we guarantee you iSecret! has a way to get at it. Sadly, there’s still no method that directly taps into the power of your DropBox account, if you’re a devoted fan like we are. However, we did appreciate the double lock, allowing you to set aside folders in-app with unique passwords.
Design and Layout
In terms of aesthetics, it’s apparent a lot of effort has gone into making iSecret! look gorgeous on the iPhone. There’s the option to choose from a variety of backgrounds and fonts, a fact that infinitely pleased the designer in us. Likewise, file organization and viewing could not have been rendered better. Our photos were crisp and responsive, and we had no problem at all locating the images we were after. We especially liked the multitude of category icons, which made it easy to identify groups without reading any text at all.
Considering the asking price ($0.99) iSecret! is really quite the bargain. No matter what you’re looking to hide, the app makes it easy to load, secure, and lockdown your photos or videos without much effort on your part. In our eyes, that functionality is easily worth the dollar asking price, and we have no doubt you’ll be pleased with it yourself.
iSecret! requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
