Dragons Rage 2: iPhone Video App Review
Need to blow off a little steam? We’ve got you covered. This week we had the pleasure of reviewing Dragons Rage 2, a deceptively simple game from Touch Village Inc. designed to help you expend some of that pent up rage, by laying waste to your would-be attackers with dragon’s fire.
In Dragons Rage 2 you control one angry, fire breathing dragon, either with tilt controls or button controls. And you’ll need that rage to vanquish your puny, numerous attackers. We’re talking archers, peasants with pitch forks and even some skilled, armored guards. The enemy variety in this game is awesome, and there’s plenty of action, with 20 unique levels that bring you from the wilderness right to the sanctuary of man itself.
There are plenty of boosts, weapons and other stats you can flesh out along the way by collecting coins and other trappings as your victims drop them. The gaming style feels a bit retro, because it’s simple. At the same time it’s a bit like a tower-defense game, only you’re your own tower.
Either way you look at it, breathing fire is cool. Just remember to point with care, you don’t have a never ending stream of fire in there, and there’re only so many HPs to go around. Choose your boosts and your strategy wisely.
Layout & Design:
While the graphics are decidedly cartoon-like, we think the colorful variety in this app is pretty impressive. The Dragons Rage 2 app manages to feel retro without looking like a mess, a potent combo in mobile gaming.
The app layout leaves a bit more to be desired. We really wish it was easier to view the levels, and that the app didn’t force you to go through the shop every time you wanted to play. While the intro page is vividly drawn, the rest of it leaves much to be desired.
Dragons Rage 2 can be your’s for free. Yeah, we definitely love a nice free app around here. Unfortunately, without the in-app currency (and plenty of it) this game is just too hard. If you have the patience of a saint you might be able to play the easier levels repeatedly collecting coins to build up your arsenal, but chances are you’re not going to want to do that. You can buy 25 coins in-app for $.99 or 80 coins for $1.99.
We wish the game just came fairly priced and with a more justifiable level of difficulty instead of locking users into a vicious freemium gameplay cycle.
Dragons Rage 2 iPhone app requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
