ZiggyVid: iPhone Written App Review
If you’ve ever wished for an easy way to combine videos, photos and music, your search is over. The new ZiggyVid iPhone app from SpinIsland is an amazing tool that can turn your media into the stuff of legends. Wanna know how it works? Lucky for you our iPhone app review of ZiggyVid has the skinny on this extraordinary media blender.
ZiggyVid combines your videos and photos and sets them to music, for video slideshows that are completely personalized.
You’ll peruse your iPhone’s video, photo and music catalog to choose the content you want to mash up. You can choose as many videos as you’d like, although we noticed that the app only mashes up four or five even if we select more, so keep that in mind when you’re choosing your videos. Then select up to five photos. It’s on to your iTunes music library, where you can pick any song to set the slideshow fun to.
ZiggyVid lets you double check your selections, choose between a fast-paced music video mode or a slower movie mode, and choose the video quality. Here’s a hint: lower quality videos are easier to share.
Then it’s time to let ZiggyVid work its magic. The app automatically randomizes your video clips in time to the tune, and pops pics up at strategic times. It all plays to your custom selected track. Getting your creations out in the world is pretty simple, thanks to direct share options via email, Facebook and YouTube.
While you cannot manually select the scenes the app displays, if you don’t like the video preview there’s a handy remix button. We really like this feature and the app in general, although we really wish the app let you select the scenes you want to use, or let you customize the videos personally.
Layout & Design:
It is extremely easy to use ZiggyVid to create video slideshows. Your content appears in helpful thumbnail format, and you can always select a video or song and preview it to make sure you’re on the right track. Basic top of the screen navigation cues are iOS standard, so there’s nothing confusing or complex about navigating the app. Just remember that videos and pictures are stored in the same main screen, but music requires you to move on via a top key. Other screens have options allocated to the bottom of the screen, so the app is a bit disjointed in a way.
As we mentioned earlier, although the app claims you can choose as many videos as you’d like to mash up, after several tests it appears the app only combines a few at a time instead of including all of the videos we selected. That can get a bit repetitive, especially if you pick a long song.
Otherwise the app worked quite well. It created video previews and saved clips much faster than we expected. At the most we waited about two and a half minutes while ZiggyVid worked its magic. Is it going to take longer when the app actually uses all the videos we select? Possibly. But for now, the app is quite fast.
It’s hard to believe ZiggyVid only costs a buck, when you consider it’s smart UI, quick processing time and the really cool results you get from using it. Needless to say, we definitely suggest adding ZiggyVid to your collection of video and photo editing apps. It’s smart, easy and just plain cool. We’ll be pulling it out next time there’s a party, wedding or family holiday.
ZiggyVid iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
