Piggy Woogy: iPhone App Written Review
Do you simply love puzzle matching games, such as the popular 3-jewel match combo iOS apps? If so, let me direct your attention to Piggy Woogy, a new iOS release from JDea. With over 100 levels, 40 unlockable achievements and online leader boards, this matching app aims to introduce a new spin on the jewel-match genre for handheld gaming devices, for $1.99.
The basic premise behind Piggy Woogy is very simple, with a fun twist: Match-up the jewels on the wall, while scoring top matches in the right location to knock the wolves scaling the wall off. At the top of the wall is the delightful Piggy in her fairytale tower and knocking the wolves down off the wall helps protect her with a set number of lives (represented by hearts) at the top of the screen with the animated pigs. The gameplay picks up pretty fast, so hold and get to matching in the best combos to protect the princess pigs! Adding variety to this fun game of Piggy Woogy are multiple special skills that the player may access (Freeze, Push, etc). Players will face an onslaught of many different types of wolves, each with their own strengths and weakness and can better target them using special items discovered during the game rounds. I found the controls to respond nicely to touch-screen item matching, allowing for smooth gameplay and defeating of the evil wolves with ease (from the start, although it quickly picks up pace). There’s helpful intro tips before missions (an astounding 100 levels), allowing new users to quickly figure out what is the objective beforehand.
Piggy Woogy’s graphics are reminiscent of many old-school cartoons, bringing to mind fond childhood memories of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck-esque artwork. The characters are nicely illustrated and the work put into the overall graphical design is quite impressive. The team behind Piggy Woogy has even included a rather impressive intro trailer, with CG wolves and Piggy’s clashing on YouTube. The overall layout of Piggy Woogy is pretty straight-forward, allowing for players to quickly jump into a game and get crackin’ at saving the pigs from the big, bad wolves.
Players of BeJeweled and other puzzle matching games will instantly feel at home with Piggy Woogy. It’s hard to imagine a unique, fun twist on such classic matching games, but Piggy Woogy has done a fairly good job of adding something very addicting to the puzzle match formula. At $1.99, it’s a decent bargain for users looking to score another fix for their puzzle gaming needs on the iOS. The added replay value through online high scoreboards using Game Center integration, infinite gameplay mode, plus the awesome roughly 40 achievements to be unlocked really help make Piggy Woogy a solid matching game with a unique puzzle fairy tale spin.
Piggy Woogy iPhone app requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
