Concept and Functionality
As stated, Letterschool main function is to teach your small children how to read and write letters. It accomplishes this through a number of traditional, though still quite modern, methods. First and foremost, the app presents the child with an array of the alphabet. Clicking on any one letter produces a verbal introduction introducing the letter, as well as an animal association to tie the sound the letter produces to an engaging distraction. This is a great way to reinforce the concept of that particular letter, and it’s also quite well executed. From there, the app has the child draw the letter in three different ways, each one allowing more and more control over the letter’s construction to the child. The first guides them through it visually, the second one requires slightly more effort to finish, and then the third takes off the training wheels, allowing the learner to produce the piece all on their own. This is a fantastic way to reinforce individual letter and number production, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by us. If your child plays with Letterschool even just a few times a week, we guarantee they’ll know their alphabet by heart.
Design and Graphics
However, there are certainly other ways to teach handwriting. So what sets Letterschool apart? First and foremost, it’s unbelievable graphics and animation set. Every letter comes with three unique animations and movements that are simply gorgeous. Not only that, but they’re lively enough to keep the child entertained completely without any boring interludes or lapses in learning. It’s a truly impressive effort, and as this level of high-quality animation persists throughout the entire app, we can’t possibly commend the graphics enough. Simply put, they’re divine.
At the end of the day, Letterschool will cost you only $2.99. For that money, you’ll get stunning animations, an effective way to teach handwriting, and support for two devices. All in all, it’s a wonderful bargain, especially for the concerned and modern parent looking to make a real impact on their young child. And with that, we give the app four and a half stars, as well as our highest possible recommendation.
Letterschool requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
