iFortress: iPhone Written App Review
When it comes to mobile security a simple password protected file doesn’t always cut it. If you’re looking for top notch protection and easy, customizable access, look no further than iFortress. This secure app from Command Hub utilizes encryption, advanced password protection and other methods to ensure your data stays put. If you’ve been looking for an app that keeps your personal and business files safe, our iPhone app review of iFortress might just have your solution.
To be honest, there are a lot of apps that claim to keep your files safe. iFortress is different. Not only does it require a higher complexity for your password, it encrypts your data with a 256-bit advanced encryption standard algorithm, utilizing the app’s trademarked CommandVault security technology. There’s even a failsafe that wipes the app after too many incorrect password attempts are made, so we definitely suggest remembering your password to avoid losing any data.
iFortress is extremely versatile. It supports opening and viewing many of the most popular document formats, from PDF and text to HTML and Keynote. The app allows you to open files from the app in other programs on your iPhone, such as Dropbox, in case you want to work on something without leaving iFortress.
You can even create secure notes and take secure photos right from the app. iFortress isn’t just a simple vault program, it also acts as a full service document manager. If it offered document editing we’d be blown away, but still, this app packs a pretty impressive set of features.
Layout & Design:
Since the app has so many share, send, save, move and delete options, we were thankful for the iFortress app’s help files. Each screen has a row of button controls located at the bottom of the screen, and a few upper right and left corner options. If you’re uncertain how to proceed, tap the little question mark icon in the lower right-hand corner. You’ll get a clear read out of exactly what each button does.
Even though the unmarked buttons were a bit confusing initially, these help files saved the day, and the user interface portion of our app review. Design wise, there are a few hidden gems, like the app’s folder color options that make sorting documents easier. Otherwise iFortress is quite plain and utilitarian. What did you expect, pink flowers and puppies? It’s a document security app, so we’re not knocking the app too many points for the plain Jane design approach.
It’s hard to put a price on security, especially if you handle sensitive or confidential documents on a regular basis. iFortress is going to cost you $9.99, but you get what you pay for. This isn’t just another app that promises to keep your files secure then falls prey to a simple password hack program. You get the extra levels of security you require here, and a wide range of document functions.
While we wish the app had a bit more flair and that it offered secure document editing and better doc service integration, if you’re in the market for a secure document manager, iFortress is definitely a solid choice.
iFortress iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
