Fat Jump Pro: iPhone Written App Review
On the lookout for a fun game with a healthy theme? Fat Jump Pro may be just what you’re looking for. This platform jumper from developer SID On has all the hallmarks of a classic jumper and a cool storyline, making this one iPhone app review you won’t want to miss.
Concept & Gameplay:
Fat Jump Pro starts out with a fun mini movie, staring our hungry green hero. A purple monster makes off with his healthy snacks, and it’s your job to lead him on the upward journey to get them back. Along the way you’ll face sugary snack food temptation, monsters and, of course, gravity. Be careful where you leap, or you’ll have an unfortunate fall.
Jumpers are simple and addictive, and this app’s gameplay follows suit. It’s a straightforward concept, amped up by boosts, bad guys and a unique health-food theme. You see as you jump collecting healthy snacks such as apples and pears is rewarded. The green good guy stays slim and jumps like a champ. If you collect too many bad snacks, like cookies and cupcakes, you’ll start to slow down. Your little green guy won’t be jumping quite as far, he’ll blow up with fat and even make a few funny noises. It’s a not-so-subtle hint that healthy eating and activity go hand in hand, and are the key to winning.
Agendas aside, Fat Jump Pro is just plain fun. There are over 40 unlockable achievements in the game, Facebook, Twitter, OpenFeint and Game Center integration and an endless supply of levels, with three unique locals to unlock.
Layout & Design:
As jumpers go we’re big fans of Fat Jump Pro’s graphics. They’re bright, smart and spot on. Jumping is automatic, it’s your job to steer so don’t let this little green guy down. The jump interface is pretty reactive in comparison to some other jumpers we’ve played, so it may take a few rounds to get used to the game. It’s not difficult, though, and every game is different. An adjustable sensitivity feature would be nice, but isn’t entirely necessary.
We’ve seen a few jumpers in the past where devs cut corners since the gameplay is so straightforward. But, we’re happy to say, that’s not the case here. Every feature, interface, soundtrack and item reacts correctly in this game. It’s extremely well made and we’re big fans.
Fat Jump Pro is a steal at $.99. There are no ads and no gimmicks, just pure fun. Sure, you might be tempted to buy coins to unlock new locations, but it’s entirely possible to get the coins from playing so we’re not taking away any points for that.
The bottom line is this: if you’re looking for an all-ages friendly game that’s really well made and a lot of fun to play, Fat Jump Pro’s the one to get.
Fat Jump Pro iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
