Back in Black: iPhone App Written Review
Back in August we took a look at a little finance application called Back in Black, by the Fission Media Group. We spent an entire review raving about the app’s sleek interface, smooth functionality, and unbelievable daily assistance. Since then, we’re happy to announce, the app has only gotten better, garnering an impressive user base as well as a brand new list of features that make it even more of a gold mine for your gold. For our full thoughts on this ever-improving and wondrous budgeting application for the iPhone, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
In the modern age, we wonder daily if our children will ever even know what a checkbook is. Odds aren’t good, considering most of our money is now electric, but that doesn’t mean the same level of fiduciary tracking and excellence can’t be achieved in the present day. In fact, Back in Black is a prime example of an even better way to do things. The app allows users to input daily, weekly, or monthly income allowances, tracking incrementally their wealth for easy management. From there, users are free to pop in goals and timed expenditures, setting an initial budget for Back in Black to work with: And this is where things get fun. Users are free to input any and all expenses as they happen, providing for seamless and up-to-date tracking via the in-app browser. All of these expenses can be modified with notes, price variations, and then grouped under a single roof. In this sense, the experience is a lot like Mint.com, as users can set budgets, goals, and costs, receiving in turn a full, analytical view of their spending habits. All in all, if you’re looking for an incredible way to track your finances on your iPhone, there is no better option that Back in Black—period.
In addition, one of the gripes we had with the app last time around was that it came with no backup method. Thankfully, this has been changed in full, providing an easy way for users to store and preserve all of their records: All in all, it’s an A+ for the lads at Fission Media Group!
Design and Layout
We cannot stress this enough: Back in Black was, and still is, one of the best looking apps we’ve ever seen. The interface is smooth, and comes with friendly Web 2.0 features. All of the app’s potentially complex menus have been boiled down to the bare essentials, making it unbelievably simple to add new finance information, and easily create new expenditures. In fact, the “Add New Expense” button is right on the dashboard, providing an incredibly quick way to pop in that latte you just bought.
With an incredible list of new features, including full data backup and password protection, Back in Black just keeps getting better and better. If you’re looking for an incredibly simple, powerful, and analytical way to track your budgets from your iPhone, you need this app. It’s pure gold, and comes with our highest possible recommendation.
Back in Black requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
