Wedding Snake: iPhone Video App Review
If you’ve ever been to a wedding, you’ve probably danced a halay. Oh, you may not have known what it was called at the time, but we’ve all been subjected to the festive frolic where we all hold hands and dance around the room in a line. Now that most disruptive of dances has morphed into a smart snake-style game called Wedding Snake from Zibumi Games, complete with multicultural tunes and pointy dinner tables to weave around. Find out how to capture the warm, fuzzy feeling of dancing a halay with 200 of your distant relatives and friends in our iPhone app review of Wedding Snake.
In the grand tradition of snake, in Wedding Snake you’ll dodge, dip, dive, duck and dodge around obstacles in pursuit of collecting a line. Only in this case it’s a line of wedding guests, relatives and even the bride and groom themselves. In what we consider an homage to Pac Man, there are also candies and other items you can collect for bonuses as you boogie your way around the world teaching the masses what it really means to halay.
Just try not to bump into stuff, like tables, drunk guests or the DJ booth. If you do your run as halay king or queen is over and it’s back to the start. There are 40 different levels in Wedding Snake spanning four different locals, with different traditions and tunes. That’s a lot of variety people. We wish you could work on different locals at the same time, but, alas, it is not so. You must complete each challenge with the right number of guests collected when the clock runs out to unlock each level.
There’s also a bit of a side story to the game, where one fella runs off from an oppressive family situation to teach the world to halay. It’s blessedly brief.
Let’s be honest, snake is an iconic game that any gamer worth his or her salt knows and loves. This is a neat twist on a classic.
Layout & Design:
We give the flat, cartoon-style graphics in the Wedding Snake iPhone app a middle of the road score, because they aren’t horrible detailed or epic, but they do the trick. It seems like the developers put the most thought and effort into designing increasingly difficult courses. And there they do succeed, because navigating the courses gets steadily more and more difficult the further you get into the game, creating a perfect level of tension and challenge. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps us coming back for more after face planting into a wall trying to pick up a guest in the corner. Well done.
If you’re hankering for a little traditional wedding tunage, or just love snake and want to enjoy the game in a new, fun-filled way, consider adding Wedding Snake to your collection. It’s seriously fun and has a sweet price tag. But consider yourself warned: this app is subtly addictive. You may find yourself spending a lot of time playing it or start grabbing strangers’ hands on the subway to start a new halay line. Nothing wrong with that.
Wedding Snake iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
