Slideshow+: iPhone App Written Review
Have you been looking for a bloody simplistic yet absolutely fabulous way to make quality slideshows from your iPhone? Better yet, have you been waiting for an app that allows you to make such masterpieces, and then export them directly in high-definition to Facebook or YouTube? How about throwing in support for Apple TV just for kicks and giggles? If you answered yes to any of those, then Slideshow+, a two dollar photo-plugging gem of an app from developer Shenzhen Socusoft Co, is your new best mate. The app brings all these features to the table and more, packing quite the slideshow wallop in its code. For our full thoughts on this endlessly creative offering, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
Just as apps like iMovie and iPhoto seek to make it simple and fun to edit videos and images on your Mac, so too does Slideshow+ seek to help you create massively impressive slideshows using nothing but your iPhone and a little bit of imagination. The app allows users to pull images from such varied sources as Picasa, Facebook, Flickr, and the stock iPhone Photo Gallery. Once loaded, these photos can be arranged in any order with the simple touch of a finger. Even better, Slideshow+ comes loaded with a whopping 60 dynamic transitions which can be placed on top of or in-between shots. We were severely impressed with these transitions, in fact, as they offer stunning visual effects to liven up even the most boring of slideshows. There’s also full support for adding music from your iPod, including the option to sync these additions with the photo performance for immediate expert timing.
Best of all, your slideshows are instantly ready for an easy export to either Facebook, Youtube, or your Apple TV without any additional work. The app packages the show for you, producing it in full 720p with no need for any monkeying around with extraneous video codecs.
Design and Layout
We have to hand it to the developers, this app looks darn good on the iPhone. We vastly appreciated the timeline-style graphical layout which made it a cinch to move, rearrange or delete photos from our show. The same applies to musical accompaniment, which rests just below the images. However, we would have liked to see a way to select more than one photo for import from the Photo Gallery, as adding each image individually was quickly tiresome.
Clocking in at $1.99 in the App Store, Slideshow+ is a full two dollars cheaper than iMovie, and provides functionality almost on par with the app. All in all, if you’re looking for an unbeatable slideshow creation experience on your iPhone, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than Slideshow+.
Slideshow+ requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
