PDF PROvider: iPad Video App Review
Unwieldy document management is a thing of the past, especially with apps like PDF PROvider from Dar-Soft on the market. This iPad app makes managing documents in a wide range of formats easy with an elegant user interface and built in access to one of the most popular cloud services out there. So before you settle on an app to service all of your PDF needs, try our iPad app review of PDF PROvider on. You’ll be glad you did.
This handy app pulls the weight of several other apps from Dar-Soft. Not only does it allow you to convert and view a ton of different file formats, it also supports creating merged PFD documents, advanced Dropbox integration, sharing via email or USB, and direct PDF creating from the Web.
A long list of types of files can be converted. Those types include:
- HTML websites
- Keynote files
In an extra stroke of brilliance, you can even create PDFs from files saved to a clipboard. An integrated Web browser makes saving websites or online files so simple it’s like child’s play.
The app is missing one feature we’ve seen elsewhere, a direct PDF scan with camera in-app. Also, you cannot add notations or fill in blanks in documents. But, the app supports pulling images directly from the Camera Roll in such a nonchalant style that you almost don’t notice it’s there. That’s just the kind of elegant handling of features that makes us love this app. Also, you can open documents from the app in other programs that support editing. So you can still do these things in a logical way right from the app, keeping PDF PROvider’s triple threat status safe.
Layout & Design:
PDF PROvider gets top marks for its streamlined user interface. This is quite possibly the easiest PDF creator and document manager to use out there. The app works in landscape or portrait orientation, but we like it best in landscape mode. There is a dedicated side menu for navigation to the app’s main areas, and the bulk of the rest of the screen is for document viewing. Controls and editing options appear at the top of the screen in a collapsible menu.
We also really love how the in-app Web browser, merge screen and even the share via email dialogue screens appear as pop out menus right in the app, so there’s no need to close out a browser and reopen the app if you’re trying to pull from a site.
And, just in case you do have any trouble getting used to the UI (which we seriously doubt) there’s a detailed intro document full of tips and tricks.
While PDF PROvider might be missing a bell or whistle or two, we still think that it’s an extremely neat and easy app to use, with plenty of business applications. Its $6.99 price tag is fair, considering all the business friendly features it’s toting around. But, it’s a bit more than some of the other PDF management apps we’ve seen lately. If you’re looking for ease of use, straightforward document management and Dropbox integration, this is the app you’ve been searching for.
PDF PROvider iPhone app requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
