Online Shopping List: iPhone Written App Review
If you’ve been feeling jealous watching those cute Windows commercials with the synchronized shopping list, it’s time to move to the head of the class. Online Shopping List is an effective tool that lets you make, share and add to digital shopping lists from any iOS device. This app from LessIsMore Development is super handy and won’t break the bank. So next time your significant other goes to the store and you get a craving for OJ, break out our iPhone app review of Online Shopping List.
Online Shopping List is a straightforward utility app. You can create new lists, access existing ones as long as you know its name and password, add items easily, search for entries, save frequent items for ease and even see a list of items already in the cart all the way from your couch.
This app simply oozes practicality, and fills a gap in iOS offerings. What’s not to love? We do wish the app had an account option, simply because any list you create must have a unique name, and, as the app gets more popular, common shopping list names might already be taken. But this is a far off concern, and possibly what we deserve for trying to name a shopping list “test.”
We do have a few suggestions for improving Online Shopping List, such as adding a barcode scanner and enabling online searches for items from the app. Also, it would be nice to be able to have two lists open simultaneously and view information about who is accessing your list.
Layout & Design:
Online Shopping List is a universal app, meaning it makes good use of the iPad’s bigger screen real estate and comes optimized for the iPhone, as long as you’re running iOS 4.2 or newer. The iPhone version has a bit of a viewing anomaly. You can enable landscape mode viewing in the app’s settings, but the app displays incorrectly if you rotate back to portrait orientation unless you turn the feature off. It’s a bit of an annoying quirk, because we like using apps both ways.
Otherwise the app is extremely function oriented. Simplicity is key. Most app functions are available in the menu icon, which looks a lot like the multifunction button in the default mail app. In fact, a lot of this app’s interface is standard iOS design. The result is an app with a bare bones feel to compliment it’s single primary directive.
If you need an app that links shopping lists through the cloud, this app is perfect for you. It also has a pretty awesome price tag. At just $.99 most families won’t have any problem adding Online Shopping List to their favorite productivity folder. We think the app is a great start and hope it expands to include more features in the future.
Online Shopping List iPhone app requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
