Interactive Telling Time: iPhone App Video Review
Out of all our childhood experiences, one of the brightest and most engaging was the process of learning to read a clock. We remember looking at the roman numerals (Yeah, we’re pretty old) and wondering about the mystery of it all. This longing for understanding, and total mastery of mystique and drive, is something no other app but Interactive Telling Time (GiggleUp) captures, making it an incredible process to teach your child time-based concepts using nothing but your iPad or iPhone. For our full thoughts on this stellar and superb educational application, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
In almost every way imaginable, Interactive Telling Time has but one real goal: To teach your child, ages 5-12 to read a clock, and understand time-oriented concepts like mid-day, dusk, a quarter to, etc. The app’s primary means of doing so is by use of five inventive mini-games, each with a different focus and a wealth of additional features. The first is a simple time setting game, which requires the child to move the hour and minute hands to match the requested time. As your child does so, pleasant animations along the side rotate to show day and night, reinforcing the idea of AM vs. PM. Among the other available mini-games are: An excellent puzzle set, in which the child must put the parts of a clock’s face together again; a stopping game that requires the clock to be halted at precisely the right time; a mini-game that requires the child to simply read an analog clock, as well as several others. All in all, no matter what concept you’re looking to instruct your child in, Interactive Telling Time has an exciting and innervating game to match.
Design and Extras
No matter where we hope to start, we simply cannot say enough about Interactive Telling Time. In terms of raw design and graphics, Interactive Telling Time sports a professional, engaging, and lively set of animations that begin with its 8 various clocks. Each of these has a unique feel, as well as additional rules and purposes to flesh out the learning experience. Likewise, we also greatly appreciated the included six different languages (Merci!) five difficulty settings, live voice narration to assist with language skills, and aquarium fish prize system. Each of these works in its own way to enhance, or drive, your child’s learning, and when combined together, they form a truly powerful and expressive educational medium.
At $2.99 in the App Store, Interactive Telling Time is an unbelievable bargain considering the amount of material the app contains. No matter how, who, or when you’d like to teach basic time concepts, the title has a means, a way, and an extra addition to make the experience a golden one. With the app, it’s entirely possible to make truly memorable experiences, just like the ones we remember from our childhood. And to us, three dollars is a very small price to pay for such a bedrock foundation. The app is solid gold, and earns our heartiest recommendation.
Interactive Telling Time requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
