Happy Show HD: iPad App Video Review
One of the great things about the iPad is that its unbeatable screen real estate allows us to do much more creating than consuming, as we tend to do on the iPhone. In fact, there’s really no better way to produce, manage, and distribute your media on the go than with your beloved, ten-inch mini-computer. Happy Show HD, by Sunfire Information, is a nearly perfect example of this, allowing us to create monstrously cool and endlessly creative slideshows using nothing but our iPad and a little bit of imagination. Concept and Functionality
As stated, Happy Show HD is first and foremost a slideshow editor and creator for the iPad. The app makes it blissfuly easy to load images from your iPad’s camera roll (or from the camera directly, if you’re lucky enough to have the latest iteration of the device) and then mangle them as we see fit. The app takes full advantage of the iPad’s touch controls, allowing you to scale your designs with pinch-and-zoom, as well as rotate them via a similar, to finger mechanic. You’re also free to arrange the images however you see fit, stacking up to five per page. Creating a new page is equally as simple: To do so, the user simply taps the “New Page” button along the top, and away Happy Show HD goes.
The fun doesn’t stop there, however. The app also allows its users to splatter the walls with any of the included backgrounds, or add their own images as a source of non-foreground eye-candy. We thought this particularly useful, as it helps to create stunning visuals in a pinch. Best of all, when the arrangement has finally settled you can immediately send the slideshow to Facebook, Twitter, email, or the photo gallery for simplistic sharing.
Design and Layout
Just as Happy Show HD takes full advantage of the available touch controls to make our lives easier, so does the interface itself aide in the process. We had no problem navigating through the torrent of features, and such complicated tasks as scaling text into place, or adjusting copy color, were accomplished in only a few seconds. Best of all, the sheer aesthetics of the app are impossible to knock: From the color palette to the sliding cover flow at the main menu, Happy Show HD is one well-oiled machine.
As a photography app, Happy Show HD is even priced competitively, clocking in at a solid $2.99 in the App Store. Of course, we would have liked to have the app rest at a steady two dollars, but considering the impressive level of functionality, the ease of use, and the easy exporting options, we feel Happy Show HD is easily worth the price of entry, as well as a recommendation from us here at the iPhone App Review.
Happy Show HD requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
