GoDocs for Google Docs: iPhone App Written Review
If you’re like us, you like to use Google for everything you can. This includes your calendar, your email, your website, and even your documents. Google Docs is a brilliant way to backup, arrange, and share all of your precious content, and all without taking up storage space on your main hard drive. However, quality ways of accessing this media on the go have been few and far between: Which is why we’re so dang excited about GoDocs for Google Docs, by developer Light Room. The app makes it easier than ever to do whatever we like with our Google Docs files and folders, granting us unparalleled freedom from our iPhones. All in all, the app is a must-have, but if you aren’t sold just yet, check below for our full thoughts on GoDocs!
Concept and Functionality
With GoDocs, we can now access just about every aspect of our Google Documents experience, even while on the go with our iPhone. To begin with, the app automatically attaches to all of your content the second you input your log-in details. From there, the title pulls all of your media off the cloud, and allows you to view it with no lag or drag on the system. If you want to open a file, simply click it, and GoDocs instantly begins downloading it. When the download is complete, the file opens up using the stellar, panel-based interface. You’re then free to read through your spreadsheets, Office documents, or songs and videos. However, that isn’t the end of the app’s functionality by a long shot!
GoDocs comes with full support for folders, which seems like a no-brainer, but is an often overlooked feature. You can also search through your entire library for specific items, and then directly share those items once they’re located. There’s also a WiFi sharing option to simplify the matter of uploading files. If you’d like to actually upload files, you can do that as well. There’s even support for multiple Google accounts—You know, in case you’re like us and have about 7 of the bloody things.
Design and Layout
We’ll try to keep this simple: GoDocs looks gorgeous on the iPhone’s Retina display. The graphics are crisp, the layout so easy to use it hurts. We loved the stacked and tiled feel of the file viewer, as well as the included option to directly edit items online. All in all, there is no more blissful a Google Docs experience on the iPhone than the one you’ll find contained here.
GoDocs does come with a single caveat, though, and that’s its price. The app clocks in at a pricy $4.99 in the App Store, and though that might be higher than we’d like, we hardly think the app isn’t worth the money. If you’re looking for an incredible way to edit, share, view, and distribute your Google documents on the go, there is no other option than GoDocs.
GoDocs for Google Docs requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
