FitnessPlanner: iPad App Written Review
It’s never too early (or late) in the season to make healthy living a priority. Making solid nutritional and exercise choices can be hard this time of year, with Aunt Betty’s double chocolate cream pie waiting to tempt you inside and nasty winter weather waiting for you outside. That’s just another reason we recommend picking up the FitnessPlanner iPad app from Useful Tablet Apps now, before this holiday season wreaks havoc on your waist line for another moment.
FitnessPlanner is an all-inclusive food and activity app overflowing with helpful fitness information, from the science behind weight loss to flow charts explaining the effect of mood on your fitness plans. Don’t let all that data intimidate you, not only is this app nonjudgmental and thorough, it takes you through the process of setting up a meal plan and scheduling activity time step-by-step.
Here’s a high level overview of the FitnesssPlanner iPhone app. There are three main tasks for any new user: inputting data in a succinct target planning tab, learning about and mapping future food intake with specific food guidelines and goals, and scheduling activity to compliment your fitness plan.
Each of these steps are full of helpful tips, explanations, charts and other useful data. The app translates all of the information you input into a weekly shopping list and a master calendar that details your fitness success plan day by day.
It may sound fool proof, but we know it can be hard to stick to healthy living plans. So the app’s Fitness Basics section might be handy for anybody who thinks they’re about to fall off the wagon.
In other words, this isn’t a demanding body building app. FitnessPlanner is a thorough educational resource and tool meant to encourage optimal health. It’s hard not to get excited about fitness after seeing all this app has to offer.
Layout & Design:
We are thoroughly impressed with FitnessPlanner’s scope of info and tools, and we’re pretty darn excited about their innovative user interface as well. Each topic is organized into a main tab, then a handy set of side tabs allow you to dig deeper in every section. The result is an app that’s super easy to use. And it looks great. You can even change the background color using a custom color wheel. Needless to say, we’re pretty stoked that we can turn this app bright pink if we want to.
When we spotted a typo on the intro page we thought there’d finally be something negative to say about this methodical, in depth fitness app. Unfortunately the developer already noticed this flub, and has a plan in place to fix it on the next update. So our cynical attempt to poke holes in this app’s near-perfect façade was spoiled.
This is the kind of app that obviously took developers a lot of time and thoughtful attention to build, and there are plenty of updates in the work, including additional export and calendar sync options. When you consider what’s to come, and consider the stellar price, it’s easy to see why we recommend FitnessPlanner.
FitnessPlanner iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
