Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk: iPhone Written App Review
Give a little shine to those fishing skills with the Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk app for iPhone. This fishing guide from Fins & Skins Worldwide gives users an inside look at the world’s best fishing tips and tricks, pics to help identify your catch, videos and so much more. So if you’re ready to land the big one, our iPhone app review of Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk is here to help.
Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk is a guide to fishing hot spots, lodges and resorts, charter services and more than 70 breeds of fish. The iPhone app is a companion to the Fishin’ Guy website, where the same content you can find in the app is available. Content is organized by region, so you can zero in on your favorite fishing hole to find out more, or find a new place to call your own. The app contains video content about different resorts and regions, giving users an overview of what to expect in each local.
This app is free to download, but the free app will only give you access to resort and charter information, short video clips on regions and an artistic rendering of each type of fish in the app. Between the free version’s limited content and the frequent “Coming Soon” screen we ran into, Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk feels a bit like an app half finished. One thing is certain, if you want to get anything out of the app, you’re going to have to pony up $4.99 and unlock the premium content. Then you’ll have access to full videos, hot spot details, fish breed write ups and a whole lot more.
We had a couple of crash issues with the Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk iPhone app, usually when our search for information brought us to a screen that asked us to upgrade. A simple close and reopen cleared up the issues though, so it wasn’t too annoying.
Otherwise the app worked well. The videos play without an issue, although they did seem to take a little longer than normal to buffer, this may have been a connection issue, not an app issue.
Layout & Design:
Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk is organized by topic and then location, making it easy to find specific information about a particular region, resort or fish. Since there is so much information tucked into the app, we wish it had an option to add pages to a favorites list for easy access.
The app’s video content is really quite good, with a high level of quality and professional voice over work. The app might be worth getting just to see the videos about each local and get great tips on where to stay and play while you fish.
Unfortunately, the free version of this app isn’t very useful. But the $4.99 in-app purchase unlocks much more useful information. If the app was complete, without so many sections that claim to be “coming soon,” we’d feel better about endorsing it. We think this app could really be something if it was done, and it’s cheaper than buying a book on fishing. We look forward to hearing more about the app’s improvements in the future.
Fishin’ Guy with Henry Waszczuk iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
