Switchaball: iPhone App Video Review
Once again, an iPhone app comes along and puts a whole new twist on playing with balls. The new iPhone friendly version of Switchaball from Drippy Cat Software is a slot style game where you use balls to unlock logic puzzles. Want to find out more? Our iPhone app review of Switchaball has you covered.
In the Switchaball iPhone app it is your job to release multicolored balls into a series of numbered slots. Each lane has obstructions, different types of switches. Your job is to release your balls in an order where the switches lift, stop blocking paths and allow your balls to travel into the tubes at the bottom of the screen.
Of course, it’s a bit more challenging than that. Not only will you face teleporters, spikes and other tricks, you’ll be playing against the clock. As each moment passes your life meter drains. The faster you move balls through the lanes the more your life meter refills. Make it through all a level’s balls without running out of life to progress.
Switchaball is a quick pick up style game, perfect for a few minutes’ distraction or blowing off a little steam. It’s fast, fun and easy to learn how to play, thanks to two helpful tutorials. It also supports a two player mode for added fun, and a global leader board where you can see how your skills stack up.
We can honestly say we’ve never seen anything quite like this before. For a simple logic puzzler app it’s not bad.
Layout & Design:
The Switchaball iPhone app is truly optimized for your retain screen. Even though the Switchaball iPhone app may be installed on an iPad, the main menu graphics will not display correctly. If you want to get the most out of this version of the app, stick to the iPhone or iPod touch. Or, try the iPad version if you’d rather play on that platform.
While there is nothing spectacular about the design work in this game, it is perfectly presentable Graphics are clear and easy to use. The screen can get a little busy during gameplay, between the balls at the top of the screen and the life and score meters at the bottom. This lead us to occasionally tap the incorrect lane. The fact that touching anywhere in a lane releases a ball is helpful. If you’re having trouble try touching the lanes further down for added accuracy.
Switchaball is an extremely addictive game of logic, perfect for a quick ten minute session of gameplay. Download this version, optimized for the iPhone, for just $.99. That’s a fair price for a thoughtful game that works like a charm. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
Switchaball iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
