Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day: iPad App Video Review
There’s nothing quite like a nice warm bed, especially when it belongs to you. In Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day, the latest eBook title from Ginger Whale, your job is to help Sleepy Mole find a comfy bed of his very own before he falls asleep.
One part story book, two parts adventure, this delightful bedtime story draws young readers in with a unique choose-your-own-adventure style, making it one of the most interesting eBook’s apps we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing lately here at The iPhone App Review.
Concept & Features:
After an unfortunate rude awakening, Sleepy Mole is on the move. As the reader, your child will guide Sleepy Mole through a series of underground burrows on the quest for a brand new place to tuck safely into bed.
By choosing Sleepy Mole’s direction, your child is directly responsible for the animals he encounters and the perfect home he inevitably finds. Every time she reads the story, it will be a little different. There are eight homes to find, and 16 animals to meet along the way.
While we do miss the traditional page flipping action you find in most eBooks, Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day utilizes a smart directional arrow navigation that not only keeps the story moving, it provides an important chance for children to make decisions.
Also, the app is missing the common interactive touches you find in so many eBook apps. But we barely had time to miss them, between enjoying the smart story line and Sleepy Mole’s tunnel digging animation.
Layout & Design:
The Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day iPad app story pages are full screen and beautifully illustrated by Melanie Matthews. These scenes give readers a glimpse into the secret lives of animals that live underground, from the badger to the snake, and even the elusive glow worm.
Simple pointing fingers are the main navigation icon in this tale of underground woe. A touch will send Sleepy Mole digging in the direction you touch.
There is not an option to bookmark your page or save your progress. However the app’s homepage does have a fun pull up tab with images of all the animals Sleepy Mole may meet along the way.
The app’s simplicity is appropriate for children of all ages. You won’t find any advertisements or links to other apps in the Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day iPad app. It’s the kind of app you can hand your children without any reservations. The sweet story line and exploration theme are perfect for kids ages 3 and up. So if you’re looking for a new special eBook for your family, give Sleepy Mole’s Moving Day a permanent spot on your virtual book shelf.
