Repeat Timer Pro: iPhone App Written Review
It’s very rare that an app waltzes into our reviewing station and immediately acts as if it owns the place. What we mean is, we don’t see many apps whose execution is so close to flawless it’s intimidating. However, Repeat Timer Pro (Artem Lapitski) is exactly just such a title, offering an absolutely gorgeous interface, perfect functionality, and simplistic controls. We aren’t saying it’s the best timer app in the App Store, but we’d certainly be hard-pressed to think of a better one. For our full thoughts on this iOS-native Clock killer, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
Just as apps like Weather Bug seek to replace the stock Apple weather offering, so does Repeat Timer Pro want to ensure you never have to use the stock timer again. And to be fair, it does a darn good job, too. The title offers a number of features not currently found with the Clock application, and if you’re looking for a more powerful way to create and manage your timers, Repeat Timer Pro will do nicely.
Perhaps the app’s biggest hook is its potential for repeat play. Without hardly moving a finger, users can create looping timers that will repeat automatically. This is useful, for instance, if you’d like to create a timer for a dish you’re cooking. You can even add a space delay between repeats, should you need to flip a set of marinating fish, for example. This ability to repeat uses is also handy in a number of sports activities. But above all, it’s a feature that simply doesn’t exist in the stock iOS offering, giving Repeat Timer Pro a tremendous leg up over whatever is currently on your iPhone. That being said, we would have liked to see even more customization. The option to create complex chains of timers would have been nice, as well as multiple timers for use throughout the day, a la the stock Android clock.
Design and Layout
However, thought we might have liked more in the functionality department, we’d be quite the set of Scrooges to complain about the app’s facelift. Repeat Timer Pro looks gorgeous on the iPhone: Period. The Web 2.0 inspired buttons are graceful, the color palette flawless, and the sound effects so tasteful it hurts. This is iOS design at its peak, and we couldn’t be happier with the way Repeat Timer Pro looks on our device.
And considering Repeat Timer Pro costs a scant dollar in the App Store, it’s really a no-brainer recommendation. If you’re still using the stock iOS Clock app, now is the time to upgrade. Your timers will be infinitely more efficient, and if you’re a frequent athlete or cook, we guarantee you will never look back. The price is right, the looks are great, and the functionality nearly perfect.
Repeat Timer Pro requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
