Fixture Box: iPhone App Written Review
Are you a supremely dedicated sports fan? Do you have severe anxiety when you’re away from the tele and missing a game? Do you wish there was just some way to ensure you never again miss out on a killer match? If you answered yes to any of the above, you’re in luck, mate: FixtureBox, by developer The E-Calendar Company, is exactly the fix you need. The app keeps you up to date on a myriad of different sports and leagues, guaranteeing you will never again have to miss out on the big day.
Concept and Functionality
As mentioned, FixtureBox is an app with a purpose, and a single dedication to that goal: The title wants to ensure you’re always informed about upcoming events in the sports, leagues, and regions you love. To do so, the app comes with a veritable wall of sports information, offering it all up in a conveniently tiled format for the user to peruse. A concerned sports fan only has to scroll through the illustrated icons, selecting sports, leagues, and then teams they enjoy. Once that’s completed, the app automatically pools data from the Internet, collecting information about upcoming matches. It then uses these findings to create whole calendars tailored to the user’s tastes. These calendars are immediately integrated with the native iPhone application, streamlining the process one step further, and making it that much simpler to easily collect match dates.
Best of all, if you’re looking for a sport, we guarantee you’ll find it within FixtureBox’s sporty halls. Some of the various fixtures it features include football (that’s soccer for the Yanks amongst our readership) rugby—both Union and League—baseball, ice hockey, cricket, golf, boxing, cycling, motorcycling, and even darts. We’ve even left a few out for the sake of brevity. In short, if you’re a sports fan of any flavor, FixtureBox will easily meet your needs.
Design and Layout
We’ll readily admit it: We’re massive suckers for FixtureBox’s layout. The app makes extensive use of a tiled design pattern, arranging its various sports. leagues, and teams in neat stacks for the user to prowl through. We appreciated this simplicity immensely, especially as it gets us to our matches very quickly. Likewise, calendar integration was a snap, as was editing our fixtures once implemented. All in all, we couldn’t be more pleased with the process, and we even appreciated the app’s orange and black color scheme.
Clocking in at a solid two dollars in the US App Store, FixtureBox is certainly a bargain for the price. If you’re looking for a quick and convenient way to track upcoming matches from your iPhone, there’s no better resource than FixtureBox, and with a price to match, the app is a steal. FixtureBox earns a full four stars, as well as our hearty recommendation. Now go get some beer and enjoy the game, you Armchair Coach, you!
FixtureBox requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
