The iPhone app is certainly pricy for an iPhone-specific title, but considering SME Marketing is more of an investment than, say, Angry Birds, we can’t help but recommend it. Concept and Functionality
As stated, SME Marketing wants to be your all-in-one pit-stop for everything small business marketing related. It does so by providing a wealth of information in a number of categories for users to peruse through: In essence, it’s like a super condensed version of a business textbook, only much crisper and easier to use. Among the eight categories included, there’s comprehensive courses on Brand & Strategy, Targeting Customers, Key Marketing Metrics, Online Fundamentals, Face to Face Marketing, Communications, Alternative Marketing Routes, and Marketing Finance.
It’s a wide variety, and offers almost everything you could ever want to know about marketing your small business. Each subsection is also further divided into smaller sections, each devoted to a more specialized topic. Each of these is then in turn categorized by popular questions on the subject, making it simple to find what you’re looking for in a pinch. Not to mention the fact that each heading comes with custom-designed “Actions”—think of these as assignments for the business owner to complete in pursuit of better understanding—and you’ve got an impressively exhaustive course on business marketing in the palm of your hand.
Design and Layout
We see a lot of educational applications here at the iPhone App Review, and we have to admit, SME Marketing is easily one of the best we’ve ever seen. Most run the gambit between patronizing dialog and narcissistic author-ego rubbing: However, none of that is present here. The app’s layout is quick, efficient, pleasant on the eyes, and contains enough quality information to earn the user a doctorate in small business marketing. We think the main menu could be arranged better than it is, making less use of tiles and perhaps better use of lists, but we have to admit the search bar is a much appreciated touch. Small complaints aside, this is a rock-solid offering that provides exactly what it says it will.
SME Marketing clocks in at $4.99 in the App Store, making it certainly pricier than most iPhone applications. However, considering that money acts as an initial investment in an education course on small business marketing, we can’t see how the value is diminished much by the expensiveness. If you’re looking for a comprehensive course on marketing, forget traditional methods, and instead download SME Marketing.
