Beep Me iPhone app, by developer Yaniv Kalsky, is the sort of app you wish someone had written sooner. The title makes it incredibly simple to make speedy reminders from your iPhone, setting times, dates, and notifications for important events in an instant. It’s not the most feature-rich task manager we’ve ever seen, and the price is slightly higher than we might like, but no matter how you slice it, our iPhone app review found Beep Me to be a great productivity app.
Concept and Functionality
As stated, Beep Me intends to be your one-stop-shop for all things task management and event reminding. Its emphasis on speed and easy creation make it a slick tool for the busy individual on the go, and a perfect compliment to the iPhone’s touch-based interface.
Unlike other productivity apps like Remember the Milk, Beep Me doesn’t load up its interface with heaps of unnecessary features. Rather, the service keeps things simple: A pinwheel of dates and times is paired with a simple notes box, making it a snap to type a quick entry, scroll to a start time, and then hit the go button. Thankfully, there’s no need for an Internet connection, as all events are stored locally to the application, as well as the iPhone’s native calendar app.
Users can also upload their schedules to services like SugarSync and DropBox, making it a cinch to keep track of events via the cloud. There’s also a plethora of reminder settings, some of which we found particularly useful: The nagging feature was a nice touch, and made darn sure we arrived at our destinations on time. We also appreciated how easy it was to set recurring or multiple alarms for any given event. Sorting through our included tasks was also a simple affair, as well as a streamlined endeavor.
Design and Layout
As much as we love Beep Me for its functionality, we were also pretty enthralled with its design. The wood-paneled interface, when combined with full Retina display support, makes for a gorgeous package on the iPhone. We also found the date and time scroll wheels, as well as the various filtering mechanisms particularly efficient: It really is a simple matter to search through, edit, or complete any of your created tasks. There’s a heavy emphasis on touch controls, and the forethought given to the creation, deletion, and completion process shines through.
Beep Me is priced slightly higher than we might like, escaping the one dollar sweet spot by an extra ninety-nine cents: Beep Me clocks in at $1.99 in the App Store. However, for that money users can enjoy one of the quickest, smoothest, and most gorgeous task managers around. It’s not the most feature rich offering we’ve ever seen, but for creating new events in a pinch, it’s a no-brainer.
Beep Me requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
