Meet Ed. After spending some time being a scientific test subject, Ed’s busted out of the joint. But he’s not quite right, and he’s on a mission. Help this addlepated swine rescue his fellow test subject friends in A Pig’s Dreams iPhone App from XRay Soft.
Physics puzzler fans this iPhone app review is going to be right up your alley.
Concept & Gameplay:
The storyline in A Pig’s Dreams definitely tugs at my tender heart strings. Luckily Ed is a pretty amusing pig, who sometimes thinks he’s a pirate, astronaut or some other daring do gooder.
You use in-game physics to navigate progressively difficult puzzle levels. The idea is to use these physics principles to reach Ed’s caged friends. Depending on the level you may be destroying blocks, teleporting, twisting and turning your iPhone’s accelerometer, avoiding killer dolphins and more.
One tap from Ed is all it takes to bust them loose.
The app’s 75 levels are quite intelligent and are always a little different, with fun sound tracks that change with the scene (farm, beach, pirate ship, city or space).
There’s even a bonus level you can play in 3D if you so desire and GameCenter integration for a little leader board action. Earn one, two or three stars for completing a level in the least amount of steps, then see how your friends are doing.
Layout & Design:
Our dashing four-hooved hero in A Pig’s Dreams iPhone app is definitely an adorable piece of work. I defy you to resist the cuteness of a pig dressed up like an astronaut.
The rest of the app’s graphics are simple but bright and clean. The different scenes for each set of levels are a nice touch that keep the app from getting visually monotonous. Gameplay is definitely the star in this app, but it’s always nice to have a supporting cast of graphics to keep the game smooth.
Breaking the levels up into various scenes also makes checking your scores or finding a level to work on much easier. There is no endless scrolling or searching.
During the game, A Pig’s Dreams iPhone app makes pretty good use of screen space. There are only two small on-screen controls tucked in the upper right and upper left corners, both of which are mostly transparent.
A score tracker would be a nice addition. There is no way to know how you’re doing until you complete a level, which can be slightly frustrating to a points hound like me.
For a limited time A Pig’s Dreams iPhone app is available at the reduced price of $.99 in iTunes. That’s a stellar value for a game this good. All the levels are tight and interesting, the in-app physics are spot on, and Ed’s an all-ages hero everyone can root for.
Bottom line? This physics puzzler ranks with some of the best we’ve had here at The iPhone App Review such as Crazy Bunny. Give yourself and your kids a sweet gift with the A Pig’s Dream iPhone app. You won’t regret it.
A Pig’s Dreams iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
