Love. It may make you cry, make you crazy, make you happier than you’ve ever been before, or make you blue. It also inspires some of the best poetry in the world.
If you’ve ever been moved to put your angst and love into words, learn how to tap in to a global community of poets, readers and raters just like you with our iPhone app review of Poems of Love from Neofitidis Stefanos.
You don’t have to be a published author to share your feelings any more. With the Poems of Love iPhone app sharing has never been easier. Neither has finding new writers in a fun, social setting.
There are two main sections of the Poems of Love iPhone app. In the first you can create a user profile and submit your own poems to share with the world. There is no limit on the number of poems you can share. If you feel it, get it out there.
The other portion of the app is where the magic happens. Thousands of worldwide users upload poems to the Poems of Love app, and you can read them all.
Sort through works from 30 different countries, in just as many languages. This app has some serious global appeal.
You can search by language, categories, most recent, quantity, favorites, most shared, region, cities, ratings and more. There are even awesome daily, weekly and monthly contents that feature the top poems.
A plethora of save, share and comment features flush out the rest of this awesome poetry app. I’ve never seen a more social poetry app. This app is perfect for writers and poetry lovers alike.
Whew, there are tons of content and options packed into the Poems of Love iPhone app. Unfortunately the app could use some serious housekeeping and organization.
The worst user interface issue is in the “Read online Poems” menu. At the time of this review, there are currently 31 different search filters on this page. Each one has a dedicated button that spans the entire width of the app. As a result you must scroll through a couple page lengths of options just to see them all.
It’s great that the poems are organized in so many different ways, but all that work is useless if it takes forever to find the single filter you’re looking for among all that stuff.
I suggest making each option a box that can be checked or an option from categorized drop down menus. It would be much more streamlined and easier to use.
Graphics & Design:
The default theme of the Poems of Love iPhone app is pretty uninspiring. Thankfully you can change the background image to anything in your camera roll and there are tons of fonts you can customize the app with.
Other than creating a sleepy blue background, there was not a lot of design work put into this app. Features such as fun avatars for users, or even a little streamlined design work would do wonders for the app.
If you love writing and are looking for an audience, the Poems of Love iPhone app is a great place to connect with likeminded folks. At just $.99 the app is a solid value, a diamond in the rough if you will. After all, all you need is love.
Poems of Love iPhone app requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
