JustUs, by developer Capple Factory, is a bit early, coming out in September, but even with Valentine’s day so far off, you can still use the iPhone app to experience a little bit of “together forever” style fun. JustUs makes it simple to send your sweetie a Thinking About You by simply opening an iPhone app. It’s smooth, sweet, and best of all, priced to match, clocking in at a dollar in the App Store. To clarify, however, to function properly, this app does require two devices.
Concept and Functionality
JustUs is one parts greeting card, one parts networking app, and every bit an offering for couples. The iPhone app allows users to pair their devices—in a connection called a “cellular bond”—reproducing real life monogamy (we hope) in a digital form. Creating this bond puts the picture of the other party on the first’s iDevice, providing a quick way to get a reminder of who you’re tied-down to.
From then on, every time one user opens JustUs, a message is sent to the other party informing them that Party One is thinking about them. This is pleasant, though there’s currently no way to send your sweetie a message back. We thought an “Aw, thanks!” or perhaps a “See you soon!” might be appropriate, but either way, Party One still enjoys the full effects of knowing they’re being thought about.
Our iPhone app review found that there’s not much else to JustUs: The app allows users to change their photo at anytime, a change that’s automatically updated elsewhere in the application. Notifications are also limited to exactly one per 24-hour period, ensuring you aren’t pestered by your significant other anymore than you already are. We find ourselves wishing there were a way to add more than one person to your list: Though we appreciate the romantic gesture, we think JustUs would be an excellent way to connect with friends and family, as well. I’d love to send my Mum a message saying I’m thinking about her, even if I only did it once a week (or month).
Design and Layout
JustUs keeps things blissfully simple. Bump functionality forms the “cellular bond” itself, making it a cinch to add your significant other to your device. We had no trouble getting our devices to pair up, though adding some other way to tie down iPhones would be appreciated—for those without a hankering for Bump, adding simple Wi-Fi connect would be a tremendous boon.
Clocking in at a dollar in the App Store, JustUs is easily worth its weight in loving power. If you’d like to connect with your Sweetie in a fun and simple way, the app has a lot to offer. There’s not much else to be had here, but that’s not entirely a bad thing: Simplicity is good for streamlining, though keep your expectations par for the course with JustUs.
