The new iNibby Nibble iPhone app from Mauro Marcon takes its cues from classics such as Snake, Centipede and Pac Man to create a simple, yet addictive, game.

If you’ve been yearning for something new to play with reckless obsessive abandon, you’ll love our iPhone app review of iNibby Nibble.

Gameplay:

In the grand tradition of the aforementioned classics, the iNibby Nibble iPhone app is all about gobbling up fruit on multi colored game boards (just like Pac Man).

However your tail gets longer for each piece you eat, and the boards are a fun mix of turns and other challenging spots. If you collide with your tail it’s curtains, and you must start the board again.

Each new game starts out with six lives. An extremely thoughtful save feature lets the game keep track of your progress. You can even save multiple games.

Don’t forget to save! Press pause on any game board then tap save. If you don’t, you’ll be fighting through the same intro boards repeatedly trying to make a dent and that’s no fun at all.

There are 32 levels in the iNibby Nibble iPhone app. Each one is a little different, and usually a little harder, than the one before. Once you’ve mastered all the levels, go increase the speed and see how cocky you feel. There are three variable speeds, sure to test even the most seasoned player.

I like the nod to classic gameplay in the iNibby Nibble iPhone app. However, I do have a few concerns. Check them out below the cut.

User Interface:

You control this iNibby Nibble fella by swiping your finger across the screen in the direction you want to go. I had a couple of issues with this interface.

Sometimes my swipes would read perfectly. Other times the response seemed quite off. And occasionally the little green fruit eater would shoot off in directions that made no sense at all.

I promise, I wasn’t getting handsy with my screen. My iPhone 4 responds perfectly in other apps. Even when I adjusted the app speed to the slowest possible rate, I had a few erratic direction responses. It’s not constant, and this app is still super fun even with a few control concerns.

Every other feature in the app (accessing the pause menu, changing settings, etc.) functioned perfectly. They are laid out simply and are super easy to use.

Value:

It’s nice to be able to enjoy a game like the iNibby Nibble iPhone app without the constant annoyance of advertisements. Thankfully it only costs $.99 to download this game in iTunes and there is nary an ad to be seen. I think the nostalgic trip down gaming memory lane is well worth the price.
