The Oh Greetings iPhone app lets you shop for greeting cards on your phone, then send an actual card (not an e-card) wherever you wish. There’s something much more personal about receiving a physical card. It’s a pretty sweet concept.
There’s even an exclusive line of cards from the Yesteryear Card line in the iPhone app. Cards range from sweeping nature scenes to funny anniversary cards. The seasons, birthdays and holidays are there too. It takes a little bit of digging, but there are cards for everybody in the Oh Greetings iPhone app.
I think the iPhone app could use a search feature, and also wish the preview included a peek inside the card instead of just showing the cover. Otherwise, think of Oh Greetings as your one stop mobile greeting card shop.
It even integrates with your phone’s contact list or Facebook contact list for easy use. During my iPhone app review I found that the app accepts payments via Paypal, which I really love.
Layout & Design:
It is extremely easy to use the Oh Greetings iPhone app. Two dedicated bottom buttons help you navigate to your profile and to the card catalog. Greetings are sorted by topic, and viewing them is extremely easy. I especially love the side scroll option to view greetings in the same category easily.
I was able to browse greeting selections, enter a custom message, pull contacts from my address book, pay for and send a greeting card from my iPhone. Unfortunately I had a couple of problems along the way.
Trouble started while I was registering for the application. When the keyboard popped up to let me enter my name the app pushed the entry fields up so far that I could not see them. It was next to impossible to get them back in view. I had to repeatedly close the keyboard and scroll up and down, just to make sure I entered my information correctly.
The app also crashed while I was trying to add credit card payment information to my profile. At one point I got a Paypal error. These setbacks aside, I was able to use the app as intended after a little effort.
Consider this, the value of Oh Greetings correlates directly to the distance you are from a greeting card store, what time of day you find yourself needing to purchase a greeting, and how much you value the time this app can save you.
While the app is free, most of the cards in Oh Greetings cost $3.95, although I did find two random cards priced at $.01, which was a nice surprise. That’s about what you would pay for a card at a store, so take that into account while deciding on your greeting card strategy.
Oh Greetings iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
