Think you know your soccer jerseys pretty well then, eh? If so, you might want to pony up to All Soccer Colors’ booth, produced by developer The Brain Busters Production. The app will put your cotton-spotting mettle to the test, racking your brain for the most obscure and widely recognized teams around.

Concept and Functionality

The question All Soccer Colors asks is simple: Can you recognize the jerseys of the most widely known and respected league legends around? Can you spot the jerseys of the lesser known warriors, too? To test your skills, the app presents a single jersey, as well as a list of teams. Pick the right one, and you get a free pass to the next team’s colors. Pick the wrong one, and depending on the game mode, you’ll get a specific flavor of fail.

All Soccer Colors comes with two different game types, each with a unique twist. Both have a timer that forces you to pick teams quickly, but in Time Attack Mode you’re given 90 seconds to guess as many correctly as you can. In Survival Mode you’re given five seconds to guess, and only three lives to play with. Mess up three times, and All Soccer Colors hands you a red card. Considering the app spans all 16 National Leagues, as well as all the European and South American national teams, some of the jerseys can be quite hard indeed. To compound your efforts, the app even comes with four difficulty settings.

All in all, it’s a fun package, but one that still needs a bit of fleshing out. All Soccer Colors comes integrated with both Open Feint and Game Center, adding achievements, leader boards, and a bit more of a carrot on a stick, but it’s still not quite enough. Even more game modes, or extra soccer trivia would add replay value to the game

The jerseys themselves have been well-selected for quality, and look great on the iPhone’s retina display. Similarly, the menus themselves look sharp, and it’s a cinch to navigate the different game modes. Aside from the running timer, though, the game board itself can feel a bit stale: Adding a few more animations to the process would make the game pop more, and would create a heft of eye candy for the user to ogle.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, true blue soccer fans will gladly pay the dollar for All Soccer Colors. The app is a great test of sports knowledge, and with different game modes, integration with gaming networks, and a vast encyclopedia of jerseys, it’s a great offering for iDevice-sporting sports fans.

All Soccer Colors requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
