I love a good RPG, and Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app is a new app from developer Studio 212 that is propelled by an amusing story of one rising star’s struggle against a band of swarthy pirates.
Throw in a little competitive card battling and an amusing heroine you control in choose-your-own-adventure style, and Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app is too cool to walk the plank. Shiver me timbers and yo-ho, it’s time to get on with me iPhone app review.
As I previously mentioned, my iPhone app review process was easy when I found myself face to face with one game that combines a lot of amusing play options.
The RPG lover in me was delighted with Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app’s story line. The tropical backdrop, fun lead and interactive scenes are awesome, and endlessly amusing.
Nikki also manages to get in to an awful lot of fights along the way. Help her battle bad guys and collect cards and clues in a fun card style battle. Draw cards and play them strategically to conquer your enemies and progress through the game.
Another irresistible gameplay aspect is the choose your own adventure model of Nikki’s interactions. When faced with a character you can select from several responses. How you win the game depends on your choices. I feel like a kid again flipping through a CYOA book! That’s priceless.
Layout & Design:
The Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app is as fun to look at as it is to play. Each screen is populated with extremely clear graphics, interactive shops and NPCs and a little cartoon flair. It reads a bit like a mid-90’s Saturday morning cartoon, right down to the block headed goons and geeky locals with glasses.
Pausing the action and navigating back to the main screen are easily done by tapping on Nikki’s notebook in the lower right hand corner. There are also a helpful map and inventories to ease Nikki through her pirate-filled adventure.
Many screens have scroll and tap configurations. When in doubt, keep searching the screen for Nikki’s next clue.
Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app is an extremely entertaining RPG with a built in card game and choose-your-own-adventure fun that is available at an extremely reasonable price of $.99. I think the app’s quality and huge array of in-game fun makes it a great value.
I could see Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star reaching a broad audience and really drawing users in with the fun starlet-done-wrong tale. I appreciate a well-crafted app with a lot of unexpected extras, and this app is definitely one to watch. Give it a try, you won’t be sorry that you did.
Nikki Holiday and the Pirate Star iPhone app requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
