Frayed nerves, racing heartbeats and tension are just some of the side effects that bad stress can have on your life. Over 75 percent of the world’s population admits to experiencing stress on a regular basis. Reclaim your calm quickly and face the day refreshed with Relaxing Stories, a well curated collection of brief guided visualizations available at the touch of a button in an iPhone app from Oxford Ideas.
Although I have the most amazing job in the world, I admit to occasionally needing to chill out. Needless to say, I was excited to perform an iPhone app review on Relaxing Stories. The quality of this thoughtful collection of soothing stories is most definitely up to par.
Stories were collected from around the world and selected by award winning author Philip Pullman (“His Dark Materials”) for their quality and variety. Six professional readers blessed with some of the world’s most calming voices share these brief stories with users through a simple, stress-free user interface.
Each visualization is approximately six minutes long. I suggest enjoying them through headphones or in a quiet place where you can be alone. After enjoying a story there are additional options to share the story through Twitter, Facebook or via e-mail, like or dislike the tale, and additional information about the reader and the author.
Layout & Design:
Relaxing Stories iPhone app is extremely simple and easy to use. Stories are organized in a list on the app’s home page where you can tap “Choose a Story For Me” to allow the application to pick one, or tap on any title to begin the visualization. Stories have an avatar indicator to the right to let users know if the track is read by a male or female, or if versions read by both are available.
Additional organization options are available at the bottom of the screen. Tap on “Voices” to view stories by particular readers, or select “Scenes” to peruse selections by topic, such as “Outer Space” or “Mountains.” I do wish there was some sort of picture or collection of images to punch up the user’s experience, but still admire the simplicity of the design.
Content is king in Relaxing Stories iPhone app. These guided visualizations pack a lot of punch in succinct packaging. Most people can find six minutes to spare collecting themselves and letting go of stress. I particularly like the variety of content that is available. Users are not stuck with one reader’s voice or one topic. If you find the woods, mountains or travel particularly relaxing use that topic to find your perfect guided relaxation visualization with Relaxing Stories iPhone app.
