Are you worried about when your favorite basketball team plays next? Or maybe you just need to know if there’s enough time for a quick beer run before the match? No matter the urgency, Next Game Live for Basket, iPhone app by developer Arkit, has everything you need to stay on top of your favorite sport.

What Next Game Live offers is simple: A souped-up timer that tracks the exact date of your favorite team’s next match. The iPhone app also serves as a repository of basketball information, as it keeps track of other details about the match too, including the tele-station the match will be on. To get the app rolling, all you’ll have to do is select your team de jour from the settings list. Next Game Live then automatically does the rest, setting up the schedule and timer to match. The timer itself is easy to read, offering a game clock style countdown starting with days till the match and ending with mere seconds until. The app will even put the time into your time zone, meaning you’ll never have to worry about matching West Coast time with East Coast games.

If that’s not enough, Next Game Live also allows you to export the season’s full dates to your device’s calendar, allowing you to create your own personalized reminders from there. Next Game Live will also track what’s currently playing, that way you won’t miss anything while using the iPhone app.

On the whole, Next Game Live’s design is mercifully simple. As stated, merely select your team from the settings, and the app does most of the hard computing for you. The app itself is sporting a very basketball-ish coat, offering cool blues and reds with chalky-white accents. Occasionally the app would fail to display a schedule, but a quick refresh in the settings menu fixed this.

Next Game Live is also sporting some ads, and offers just a flat black background in its free incarnation. However, for a dollar in-app purchase you can remove adverts and add some nifty images to the home-screen. You also won’t be able to access the app’s calendar features without paying a dollar.

My biggest complaint with Next Game Live is its lack of social networking integration. The app includes a built-in chat function to trash talk the enemy, but you won’t be able to link any games straight to Facebook or Twitter just yet.

Overall Value

If you’re looking for a free basketball match timer, Next Game Live has what you need in spades. And for just a tiny fee, you can unlock several more features, making the app one of the best B-Ball trackers on the market, and earning it a hearty recommendation.

Next Game Live for Basket requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
