Before embarking on a fabulous vacation to a distant land go and get pricked. That’s what well known Malaysian doctor Nor Ashikin Mokhtar (Dr. Nora) suggests in iTravelJab, a health conscious iPhone travel app that helps you plan and keep track of immunizations. Travel smart and stay healthy.

As a traveler, I was extremely interested in performing an iPhone app review on iTravelJab. International travel can be exciting, but exotic places sometimes house exotic diseases, and its best to be prepared. Some immunizations need to be taken in a series, or months before you leave. Take the worry out of preparing with the Dr. Nora’s informative iTravelJab iPhone app, as available  for the iPad and iPod Touch.

Enter your travel location and the date of your trip to see Dr. Nora’s travel immunization report. View a list of diseases that commonly occur in the area you are traveling to, complete with symptoms, general information and a suggested time frame for visiting the doctor to be immunized.

You can also create a record of your current immunizations for easy access. The iTravelJab app is rounded out with travel tips, a message from Dr. Nora, and several informative sections detailing diseases and special travel concerns for children, pregnant women and adults. The only feature I found myself wishing for was a calendar like time line, or scheduled events that appeared in my iPhone’s calendar. The record section does provide an option for future dating events, so for now that will have to suffice.

Educational Factor:

The sheer amount of information packed into the iTravelJab iPhone app is amazing. The disease section of the application goes into detail about 14 major global diseases, providing disease definitions, signs and symptoms, contraction information, preventative steps and immunization suggestions. Obviously this app is not intended to take the place of a doctor, but having a readily available list of symptoms to watch for while you are away from home is an extremely valuable resource. Correct scheduling suggestions can help prevent life threatening diseases while you travel abroad.

There is a special section dedicated to information specially tailored to children, teens, pregnant or nursing mothers and the elderly. Use this section to access additional information from the CDC and suggested immunization schedules.

User Interface:

An easy-to-use bottom tab design makes navigating in iTravelJab a cinch. Regular back buttons locked in the upper left-hand corner of the screen mean never getting lost while researching and planning. I’m particularly fond of the pinch to zoom feature on the information pages. Zoom in to view larger text or zoom out to get a full picture of the info screen. Top and bottom bars stay stationary, making page management and navigation even easier. This is an extremely well thought out app.

During an introductory period iTravelJab is available for 50 percent of the regular price. Even without discounted pricing, this app provides a true global service and is a must have for international travelers.

iTravelJab iPhone app requires iOS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
