Sudoku Puzzle Pack iPad and iPhone Video App Review
Sudoku Puzzle Packs, by developer Thumb Wizards, is a fantastic example of how Sudoku puzzlin’ should be on iOS, and as a full universal offering, you can be plugging in numbers until the cows come home.
If you’re at all familiar with the Sudoku game concept—which many of you may remember blew up a couple years back—then you know exactly what’s offered here. You’re given a board of blank spaces which need to be filled with numbers ranging from one to four, one to six, or one to nine. You’ll have to arrange this combination in every row both left to right and up to down, as well as within each box. If that sounds complicated, don’t worry: It completely is. However, Sudoku Puzzle Pack offers plenty of in-app documentation to get you going.
The iPad app and iPhone app games themselves do not add much to an incredibly rich game mechanic, but rather focuses on delivering the straight good stuff. Adding numbers to a space is as easy as clicking on it, and then selecting the number of your choice. You can also pencil in numbers, which is a nice touch, as you won’t often know the exact number to choose. Once you think you have it all figured out, Sudoku Puzzle Packs will either reward you with some confetti and sparkles or say you missed a spot. If the later, another great addition to the mix is the assist button. By clicking assist, you’re free to hit any square to see the proper number that should rest there. This means you’ll never be left in a corner, and it really puts the focus back on the puzzle, rather than your personal conquest.
The Sudoku Puzzle Packs iPhone app and iPad app is a brilliantly designed offering in the genre. The board is simple and clean, and great attention has been given to making this thing look right on both the iPad and iPhone. The interface is simple and intuitive, meaning you’ll be playing Sudoku almost instantaneously. You have the option to change the theme of the board to a multitude of different layouts, giving the app a pleasant amount of customization potential. There are a lot of small touches here that make Sudoku Puzzle Packs a top-notch addition to Sudoku for iOS. Among these is the ability to shade boxes for easy perusal, pause the game for a breather, and integrate your scores with Game Center in case you need some competitive initiative. It’s a high-quality production, and the developer’s have done a magical job building the perfect Sudoku app for your iDevice.
