PairShare iPad Video App Review

Reviewed By: Bill Myers

You love to show off your new music to friends but hate handing over your iPhone in order for them to listen to your tunes.  Well, there’s an app for that.  PairShare, an iPhone app that allows you to wirelessly stream your music to a friend’s iPhone, is here to save the day.

Once PairShare is installed on both iPhones, each user can create separate playlists to hear each other’s iPhone libraries.  It utilizes Bluetooth and the audio quality is superb as long as you are within the signal’s range.  Let’s talk a little more in-depth about this app’s capabilities.

During our iPhone app review of PairShare, we found the app to be a delight to use and very effective. If you have ever paired a Bluetooth headset, it can be frustrating. But in the case of PairShare, it’s easy to connect.  Touch the app, create a playlist, connect to a friend’s iPhone, listen to their music.  Simple.  There is an excellent “Instructions” menu under the “Info” tab within the app that answers any questions you might have regarding pairing.

The ShareList feature within the app is an easy way to find songs you want to stream wirelessly to a friend.  Once a playlist is established, it is simple to connect to a friend’s iPhone with the PairShare app installed, and begin streaming music.   The remote control feature is basic and easy to use as well, but I feel like the remote control icons are too close together, and I sometimes ended up hitting the wrong  selection button.  Not a big deal compared to the overall usage of the app itself.

PairShare recently performed an app update, version 1.10(138), adding in several new features. The ShareList view now allows you to view your friend’s entire ShareList. This is coupled with the ability to view the song time, album, and even the album art and artist. Additionally, the new Remote Control feature allows you to fast forward, rewind or directly select new tracks from the share list. These added updates make an already excellent app even more droolworthy.

The PairShare app saves time and energy from having to give someone access to your iTunes music via a compute, or handing off your phone to give someone the chance to hear a new song.  The free version of this app is great to hear a few tunes, but the full version of the app is only $2.99 and unlocks continuous access to the full library of songs, rather than one at a time.  That is a heck of a deal if you are on a road trip and want to listen to songs continuously from another person’s iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.  Three bucks means the phone stays with you.  That is worth it if you’ve ever lent a iPhone to a conniving friend who has an exceptional ability to post status updates about embarrassing nights on the town…on your account.

Everything about this app is well though-out and at the superb price of free, it’s the best deal in town.  And to get that continuous play functionality is worth it for $2.99 without question.  This app is for anyone who hates to hassle with sharing iPhones to listen to new music and wants superior sound quality, ease of use and an inexpensive way to do this.

PairShare iPhone app [ iTunes Link ] requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
