Imagine being able to view webcams from famous locations all over the world, all on the same page, from the palm of your hand. Sounds impossible? Think again! EyeSeeU, from French developer Ecaste is a slick app that lets you view live stream webcams and updated images, from preselected webcams. Not interested in viewing the Eifel Tower or Pelican Lake? Add your own webcam sources in with the easy add tools in EyeSeeU.
Users of EyeSeeU can select to view a list of all the webcams linked to the app, view image shots of each on a page (or multiple pages), edit their settings or synchronize their webcam through the included links. There’s even pan-tilt-support and the ability to view either live streaming (through MJPEG technology) or still images, refreshed periodically. Users aren’t limited to just a multi-page view of webcams, as they can simply tap on the one they are interested in and view a larger, more full-screen style view of the webcam stream of interest.
Most of the importance in EyeSeeU is on the actual webcam images and not the app. That’s not to say that the graphical layout of EyeSeeU is subpar; rather it is just right for this style of iPhone app. It’s easy to browse and locate different webcams, even for new time users. Furthermore, while adding a new webcam make look a little daunting, the developers note that they are happy to assist users (just contact them through their website email).
Being able to view rush hour at the Golden Gate Bridge and early morning in Paris near the Eifel Tower, all from one iPhone app, is truly impressive. While the webcam image quality differs based on the cameras used, overall I was quite happy with the details. My favorite was the included webcam from Amberg, with frequent updates that made viewing quite interesting.
Furthermore, the ability to add you own (or others) webcams to the device makes this an incredibly useful iPhone app. Users could keep an eye on their home or valuables through security webcams, or use it as a baby monitor device, or even check out their favorite fishing hole weather if a webcam is nearby. I was super happy with the features included in EyeSeeU and I think iOS users looking for a useful webcam viewer on their Apple device will be delighted with this app as well.
EyeSeeU iPhone app requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
