The uber-popular matching game Box of Sox dares to pose the question we all think but are too afraid to say. Why do socks go into the dryer in pairs, and come out alone? Fight only sock syndrome with your keen matching skills when you play Box of Sox HD from HD Interactive, recently added to the list of iPad friendly apps.
While writing my iPhone app review I realized Box of Sox is a serious matching game for the ages. You may hear the words “matching game” and instantly begin a sardonic yawn. Not so fast! Box of Sox for iPhone and iPad is actually challenging, interesting and addictive, with exciting levels and brain teasing fun for all ages.
Tap the dryer to begin a frenzy of sock matching fun. The top row of each level will populate with five socks. Find matches for the top row of socks as the game board populates. Match other pairs on the board to keep it from filling up.
Careful! If you leave a matching pair of socks on the board too long it’s gonna get interesting as socks begin flying onto the screen with increased speed filling up your board! Find matches for all the top row socks before the board fills to pass the level. Fail and you’ll get buried in a pile of socks.
Each level gets progressively harder and faster. You think matching is easy? Give Box of Sox a try. This game gets challenging. Keep track of your top scores and progress whenever you launch the app in the highest score box at the bottom of the screen.
Box of Sox is easily navigated with a touch of your hand. Tap the dryer to launch a game of Box of Sox. Tap matching socks to create a pair which will instantly vanish, creating more room on your board for new socks. Be careful while you tap! Socks you select will become highlighted. If you get caught up in the moment and tap a sock you may waste precious time and lose. There is no drag and drop in this game. It’s all about the tapping, which makes working Box of Sox easy.
Pause the game to take a break from your sock matching crusade. Press the home button to save your place and navigate to other functions. Pressing quit will undo your progress and you will not be able to pick up where you left off. A paused game may be resumed by pressing “Play” then choosing “Continue.”
Graphics and Design:
Stripped, checked, patterned, short, tall, plain, plaid and polka dot are all designs you will find in Box of Sox. Even sock aficionados will not be disappointed by the playful variety of patterns, shapes and sizes. These details take a simple matching game from ho-hum to fun. Although the game design is basic it is clean and easy to use, fun and a little whimsical. These images are bigger and better on the iPad with the recent app update.
Box of Sox HD iPhone app requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
