Want your children to learn how to read a clock and tell time? It’s a snap with KidsClocks iPhone app, a smart and cute app from indie developer Kids-Appstore, for the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Children will have a blast learning the basics of telling time from a standard clock, with multiple options and great graphics to keep them entertained.

Controls:

Parents can set the type of clock and time they want their children to learn, and then pass the iOS device to their kids to figure out the answer. There are options for several different styles of clocks and times in minutes, plus different use modes that are easy to switch between.

When using the Learn mode with the touch clock, children can manually touch the screen to change the time on the clocks by themselves. Alternatively, they can touch to start and stop the clock on the animation clock, allowing them to see how long a second, minute or an hour takes. Of course, I’m not sure how many children will actually sit through an hour of real-time clock action, but it’s still nice to have this option in KidsClocks. There’s also a ‘fast’ alternative to the real-time clock, helping speed things up and keep Junior’s attention at the same time.

Graphical Layout:

KidsClocks has bright and cheerful graphics with cute cartoon creatures. There is an array of colorful and interesting clocks for kids to look at, revolving around the classic clock format (not the digital models). It’s sure to get the attention of children, especially at the age when they are just learning to read and tell time on their own.

Ease of Use:

KidsClocks is really easy to setup and it is easy to get your kids started with this fun and educational iPhone app. Of course, if your youngster isn’t very proficient with the touch screen (especially on an iPhone or iPod Touch), you might run into some problems. Using a larger touch screen model such as the type found on an iPad would probably solve this problem. Just make sure Junior doesn’t take his new KidsClocks app to the bathtub or swimming pool!

Value:

At $2.99, KidsClocks app is a decently priced educational program. For mom’s and dad’s interested in kick-starting their children’s basic knowledge of the world, KidsClocks should be a great value. There are two different quiz modes (Picture and Learn), plus entertaining images and sound effects keep this app useful for a long time. KidsClocks is a wonderful educational tool that shouldn’t be overlooked.

KidsClocks iPhone app [ iTunes Link ] requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
