Base 2 Solutions presents gamers with their iPod, iPhone, and iPad game, Walkabout, a genuinely thrilling puzzle game. Walkabout iPhone app is a visually appealing game where you have to go collect the multitude of stars that are located on each map. Sounds somewhat easy, right? Well, as there are 64 levels, plus 8 bonus levels, that one must complete and with the steps you took to get to a location disappearing behind you, thwarting any means of going back along the same route, the game is immensely challenging.
There is also a timer in the upper left-hand corner telling you how long you have spent on the level. The longer you take, the lower of a score you earn. The more you earn, the more bonus levels are unlocked. The full version of Walkabout is only $0.99, but Base 2 Solutions also makes a Lite version of Walkabout. The Lite version is free but only currently offers 8 levels (and an update in the Apple queue can bring it up to 16 levels) to complete. Walkabout is an extremely enjoyable puzzle game that people of all ages can enjoy!
Extremely easy controls, all it takes to move your character is a slight flick of the finger up, down, left, or right, and your character will move one tile in that direction. To choose a level, all you need to do is press with your finger on the level of your choice (as long as it has been unlocked) and the puzzle will start.
Simple graphics, but very easy to understand what is going on. The tiles look great and the graphics will definitely not bore you out. The intro screen is very simplistic, with just a volume option (sound, sound effects only, or mute), and the level selection screen is also rather simple. Walkabout has 4 different zones, the first is “The Village,” the second is “The Forest,” the third is “The Mines,” and the fourth is “The Town.” Each of the zones has their own distinct set of tiles, which helps change up the monotony, that way you won’t have to see the same scenery in each level.
The soundtrack for Walkabout is an upbeat, ambient electronic track, that starts to get slightly repetitive after several hours of frustrating gameplay. However, it still fits this genre and adds a nice cartoony feel to the Walkabout iPhone app.
For only $0.99 , the Walkabout iPhone app is a great way to spend a buck. The amount of levels (72, including the 8 bonus levels) and the nicely simple, yet complex, feel of the game make it a great value for anyone looking to spend a long car ride expanding their brain functioning with some star puzzles. Also, the Lite version mentioned earlier that only contains 8 (or if updated, 16) levels, is a great way to test out the game.
Overall, the Walkabout app is a totally spiffy game for puzzle fiends! Thoroughly enjoyable, and with most of the puzzles taking more than one try to finish them, it is an excellent game for the Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch!
