Step back in time as Stereolizer magically turns your iPad into a realistic retro looking radio-cassette player from back in the late 70s early 80s.

The use of digital music players like the iPod has recently been slated for ruining the full enjoyment of music for the younger generation. It claims that this cold and clinical technology was reducing people’s ability to truly immerse themselves in new and old music.

And on that note, welcome Stereolizer, an app that takes you back to the good old days and gives you access to a radio-cassette player that allows you to listen to an incredibly wide range of internet radio stations and even allows you to record them, remix them, and play them back when you aren’t online.

I really can’t begin to express how great this iPad app is in terms of what it offers. You’d think that this app would just get swallowed up with so many apps out there offering access to a variety of radio stations and allowing users to download tunes, in fact the iPad itself allows users to download music from the iTunes website. This, however, is not the case as Stereolizer combines the ability to tune into more than 6,000 internet stations of which 30 can be preset for easy access with the unlimited recording of talk shows, music and anything else the variety of stations are playing.

What makes it such a huge hit though is not just its features but the way in which the app presents them with the intricately designed 1970’s / 1980’s old fashioned radio-cassette player that allows radio stations to be chosen by tapping on the display or sliding the old style tuning dial.

Ease of use:

It is truly amazing that an app that offers so much can be designed in a way that makes it instantly accessible to absolutely anyone. To say that Stereolizer keeps it simple is a monumental understatement with everything available literally at the touch of a button from the tuning off the vast swathe of internet radio stations and the creating of preset groups to the recording, mixing and playback of all the best stuff you can find.

There is no doubt in my mind that the tremendous popularity of this app in Europe is down to the way that this app has been perfectly designed to provide users with access to, and the recording of, massive amounts of music in a way that many will love simply for its retro look.

Stereolizer for the iPad [ iTunes Link ] requires iOS 3.2 or later. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
